Guys,
As I was a bit late to SAM, I didn't follow my usual sequencer route, but recorded all the tracks live into the D1600.
I've been learning the guitar since last August, and wanted to try some parts out too.
Mixed it together today, it's been a long time since the last one, hopefully they will become more refined as time goes on.
After hearing Dee's song the mix sounds very drums heavy on my desktop speakers.
Enjoyed the whole process, good call George

Sounds like you have accomplished quite a bit on guitar since August bro! The cleaner chorused electic guitar sounded a bit bassy. Fantastic synth solos!
Drums...yea, maybe a little to heavy. Hard call as to whether it is a volume or EQ issue. I would say a little less on the kick for sure. Given all that was going on around them, it might be an opportunity to throw some heavier reverb on snare and high hat.
Fantastic job man.

it's a good song, but you need to tune the guitar a little I think. A little tweak to the eq and you'll have a good piece of music here!

there is a powerful sound at work here. Love the guitar and now that synth, acoustic thing has kicked in, great sound there too. Boy we are all so different in our styles. During the flute part there are some pitch problems I think. I'm wondering if a few parts could use more melody. There are some nice hooks in the lead parts though. there's a lot you can do with a nice sound like this, your piece is very inspirational _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Hi Chordial,
You got some good feedback above. One thing I noticed is the drum timing varies. You might want to sequence and quantize them.
I have always liked the way you orchestrate tunes - you have the ability to cast a vision/scene with your music
I look forward to more of your music !

Good feedback from me, too.
But I'm with Lorenzo and DrWho about guitar tuning and drum timing.
Fix these minor problems and you're done!

This is really Great!, and has a lot going on...!!
It is again, evocative of power and yet, sadness...I do agree there are intonation issues at times...but the effect is not really hurt much...Thought the balance was good, and you used a lot of melodic material... All I would want is less kick...and an ascending counter to the guitars C,B,A,G,A...like..C,B,C,D,E...for example....
Loved the overall effect! This will be really great when you get it perfected!!!
Best Regards, ellll |

Many thanks guys,
It's been a while, and the feedback is really good, and I would like to make each song as good as possible. I think we all get song overload after so many listens and mixes with out own stuff. It's sometimes hard to hear the parts in isolation anymore. The guitar is becoming more familiar, although I've a long way to go yet, it's a nice complement to the keyboards. Some parts I need to work on - The drums and guitar I'll re-do, thanks for the suggestions, I usually record the bass/snare/hi hats on separate tracks, so that they can be treated separately.
Good thinking with the ascending balance, maybe a combination of the both, marvelous.

I didn't forget you darling !
I loved all the different guitar tones you were getting there, some of them were positively "stadium'esque" with playing to match ... great job !
It's funny after listening to my own piece this morning (first time since completing/posting it last night) my impression was that there were lots of nice ideas going on in my piece but they are put together in a pretty odd way. Listening to the whole piece, it doesn't feel like a single fluid entity but a succession of parts stitched together. I need to focus more on the big picture and think much earlier on how all my bits will go together to create a unified whole.
To a lesser degree, I felt that maybe the same thing was happening with your piece (maybe it's a British thing LOL). There are loads of great moments in your piece which are well composed and performed (and much enjoyed!) but the big picture is somewhat less defined. After working with a singer for a year, doing more traditional songs with verses and choruses, I forgot how difficult it is to compose/arrange instrumental music which is less rigidly structured.

Good to see you feasting at the table Daz, glad you could make it too
I ummed and arred, but it has to be done. Been so long, and this is something that I wanted to do, again. Rough around the edges, but it gets you started, and that's what it's all about. Bits and bobs, it was a struggle, and things need finishing up, early days. It doesn't have a 'good bit', but more of a combination of not too bad, and apart from the drums (which I'll re-do), I'm pleased for a first one, my guitar teacher may disagree
I've been listening to yours on and off all day in work, off for another listen now _________________ Chordial |

I grew up play various instrument like a lot of you. After hearing another piece with a guitar I wish I still had one. I love the little guitar run at about 3.04. That is so kool! Well done, bro. Daz nailed it when he said "stadium'esque" at the end of the song I raised up a lit lighter for an encore. You did this on a D1600 as well. It is imposible to quanitize on that machine but in ever other way I love the D1600.
Nice piece, Simon! _________________ “I’m into scales right now.”

Hi Simon
This song really takes one on a ride - I loved the beautiful guitar tracks and the piano melodies. It's great to hear so many of you here at OSAM playing REAL GUITARS. You're so lucky.
I liked the sound pallet that you created and the laidback beat. Wow your drums are rather more 'forward' in the mix than mine .
Songs like this really inspire me to get back to that synth and do better than last time.
Have you started on your next song yet - I haven't!!! Tut tut it's 3rd of March already.......well in Australia it is! Do you realise I have to finish my songs at least 9 hours before all of you???? IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!!
Regards from
Dee |

Thanks JL,
"I raised up a lit lighter for an encore" lol, nice one
I love the D1600 too, it's so fast to put things together.
Thanks Dee,
I do have a start for March, just some chords at the moment, I see the dealine as the end of the Month.
I really want to tidy up Feb first.
Sounds like you get a 9 hour head start then _________________ Chordial |
