Welcome to my February musical number, which is a bit of a yucky hack in order to meet the deadline, but hopefully still in keeping with the spirit of the OSAM. It's my first solo work for absolutely ages; I'd forgotten how difficult it is doing this on your own Smile

There is a slight bit of weirdness with the lead line in the middle of the song, where one of the Virus presets did something a little odd with the pitch, I need to fix that. LOL, it's one of the few presets in this piece, most of the sounds are my own programs Cool

Enjoy ... hopefully it has a few redeeming moments.

Woops, I just noticed another mistake, one of my fade outs got lost and there is a synth parts that just stops dead ... will try to clean up the two mistakes up tomorrow or at weekend.

since the song is great but you finished so late I tried to find a mistake or something to criticize... eh eh eh I've been able to find only a little thing I dislike... but I should listen with more attention, maybe I'm wrong, but at the half of the piece after a break in the drums, when the drums starts again a note of the bass sound or some other instrument seems to be too long, like the bass wasn't monophonic but polyphonic... so that the decay or the release falls after the beginning of the new note... I'll listen to it again this afternoon... then let you know if I was wrong or right.

it starts at 1:46 but it's not a mistake... I think that the synth bass and the synth piano (can't describe the main "arp" instrument better) play some notes that put on top of each other and create that strange effects of a pedal pressed for too long.

Hi Daz

Can't hear any of the 'mistakes' you're talking about, but music-wise I really like this. Those vocal tracks are beautiful and fit in really well. At first I didn't like the gruffy growly bass, but then second time listening it's really grown on me.

So for a "yucky hack" (your words!) it sounds really good to me. The harmonies take one to unexpected places every now and then.

Glad you got this done - it's the kind of sound that I wish I could coax out of my synth. You show what a beautiful instrument the triton is.

Well I think I found a very critical mistake. It starts aboout 15 seconds in. You muted the track that Dave Gahan was singing on. Laughing

Well, I give you points for having a bass line that is both interesting and fills the right spot very well. Many of us cheat on the bass and just put something there to notate the chord bottoms. I like that the different parts come in and out and that the drums change up. it keeps it fresh and interesting. Whatever tweaking you feel it needs sounds minor to my ears. Nice big sound and you melody/lead lines are taking good advantage of those great chord progressions. 12 songs like this would make a very intersting cd.

Like what you've done with that piano riff, it's changed into something else again, Japan-ish at the start.
That 2:19 stuff is inspired, a bit creepy, but what the heck, sounds good to me, drums back in at 2:39, just right.
I hear all sorts on influences, but nothing copied at all.
Very original work, I love it!

I love the sounds you choose and they mix together into some beautiful hues. It has a great vibe and it is complete. The song is upbeat and fun. Mine are too serious. Maybe I need some of what you are drinking. Razz

Cool intro - I like the way it builds (clever drum usage in the beginning - nice!) , and excellent transitions throughout. All virus did you say? Even the voice Wink

Man that gave me chills!

I didn't hear any thing weird but I'll listen a few more times later - I've played it a few times already. It made me want to grab my bass and jam along.

You need to name it though!! I almost wish it was longer. So how much time did you spend on this?

Nice soundpalette used there Daz.
Impressive "own programs" Cool

The introduction is delicately done and the use of that simple "piano" arpeggio is great. Overall a pleasant and good production to my ears.
Tasteful use of filter on the bass aswell. Lovely choire and vocal moanings Smile

and lovely sounding lead @ around 2:30 - Drums are nice aswell... (sound simply as it fits there)

If i would try to give anykind of critique it would be that perhaps there is an ittybitty overuse of FX in some parts. I´m sure this is intentional from your part, but my taste would lessen a bit on the reverb or delay around 1:26 and a bit forward. I compared it to the 2:30 part and i think the lead suites better in the mix at 2:30.

Overall a very nice song tho Cool

Hi Daz,

Boy this is a really nice expression of inventivness...I am not sure of what to say but you knock my socs off starting at about 45 sec in...!! The expressivenesss is great.

Starts in A minor, then hits that spot with the D..to G maj, (about 45 to 50 sec in...HARD!! to tell on this D--n pop-up player that loaded sometime or other on my computer), as would be done in the normal key of C...

Now, as Am is the relative minor of CM it gives the "heart twist" section, of the VII7 chord (GM), ...Killer!! ..with the transition back and forth to Dm it is actually a classic popular ("hook") and is MOST effective; indeed, it is equiv. of "dwelling" in the V7 chord of CM, where you APPEAR to be for sections...!!!

Great Move!...(and the V7 is the orig. heart breaker if well used as well. All the greats used it that way...Example...Perry of Journey......)

Enough! I will listen and enjoy!!
