Pecca, since my MXL went I have done the last two songs with a Shure SM57. I run that through a VST tube compressor plug and finally though one of two reverbs...either Native Reverb Plus or Roomworks. I may place a hint of chorusing on the voice just prior to compression as it gets tucked it the back and no one seems to notice the phasing once it's compressed.

Nice sound you´ve created on the vocals.

I did sing once (and play the bass with a band 20 years ago) but these days i hardly sing at all. My vocal "stretch" is not that good. Would love to sing the higher notes aswell, but it won´t happen. Have a cheap behringer ultravoice 8500 @ home, but i think the onboard mic on the R3 is better than that... LOL

Anyway, nice sound on the vocals Smile

Hi Jon,

Well, I got into Soundclick and saw the usual choices, along with a new one....leave..., but it didn't work when I clicked on it.... Idea Oh...that was the name of the song wasn't it... Idea

Jon...nothing to say here...a ballad style, but with real overtones of a more "art" attachment as well...the whole structure is so very nice. You have a very strong attention to detail. AND, I note you seem to have NO pitch problems to speak of...it is mirror clear all the way...(were you sick when you did this???) Your just flat-out creativeness stands on a pillar...

I can say without any reluctance (or amperage or voltage either...), You are the champ. I cannot see how another here can match your obvious care and work. I am wandering all over the shop all the time...and then you perform like this....probably standing in one place......It ain't right, I tell ya'... Shocked

What a great tune...This needs to be "out there"....!!!!

My Regards!!!! ellll Rolling Eyes (John)

You are too kind John...but I am one of many here. That is why I call you brothers. Thanks you for the vocal comp. I am still trying to implement what others have suggested. This one has me a tad stumped.

I really just think someone else should sing it! Laughing

Jon

Hey I was only pulling yer leg! Very Happy

No offence was taken, so no need for everyone to get paranoid about what they say. I just couldn't resist that one......

Phew I really should be getting on with my March song instead of fooling about on other peoples' posts.

Dee, in the south US, we would say " you are a rose among thorns". It is always good to have a non-male influence. Smile

I couldn't agree more!

I remember when I first joined IA, there were two fabulous ladies here, Sioux (Dreamaiden), and Lame Duck, (Anna).
They made me feel welcome as a newbie, and we eventually became friends, even did some fun collabs.
I miss them both.
It's great to have you here Dee, and your beautiful music.
Regards,

I can't even begin to say how much I have learnt from all of you and how much I appreciate the respectful tone here at KF, specially in OSAM.

I never met Anna, but did get to read a lot from the lovely Sioux before she went off to record her beautiful CD.

Sharing our music like this is such a special thing, almost unthinkable between so many people who have never met in real life (except for our two young Italians Very Happy ). That lonely feeling late at night, with headphones on, stuck on how to carry on after the first verse, is somehow more bearable knowing you're all 'out there' facing similar struggles.

Thanks again for all your patience and help,

Dee

Thanks Vesa. And I hate to smash this but..........

I just uploaded a new version according to everyone's suggestions and work on my own and figuring out what sounded good, etc.

I am still not sure, though the last vocals which were really the weakest part have a nice bed to sleep in.

So please if you get a chance, listen again. This is the link-

Thanks.

First of all I have to get over the emotional reaction to the song itself which is really so powerful, to begin thinking over what you've done new and considering the result. When the drums kick in it sounds absolutely perfect. But it seems once the full sound is reached it's a bit too thick sounding, but I think it's how it's mixed not in the individual instruments. There seems to be a guitar buried in there with some other sounds that are competing. Thru my headphones it seemed maybe it was all panned center so they were competing for space. But please understand I'm nitpicking here. I think this is at least one good viable solution to create the drama for the ending. I will listen again and see if my second take confirms what I've said here, or sometimes it's just that you're used to a song and a change sounds too drastic.

Ok on the second try I think that the guitar could be panned to the right a bit more, I think it's the voice and guitar overlapping. Just a suggestion. But now I admit that after another listen it's sounding more as it should. Funny how your ears work isn't it. This is a beautiful song, you may just leave this be as is.
