I don't want to quit but I have no time to create this month's song, so the alternative are: 1 publish an ugly song written in a few minutes or 2 have the possibility to write 12 song in a year but not respecting (at least I'm sure I won't be able this time) each month ending.... What you guys and gals think about this? Do you feel I can have this "special" clause to the OSAM contract?
When I signed in I still didn't have this work and I lose a lot of time with it and I still have to learn a lot cos it's not easy, so if you have the patience I'll finish this osam at the exact ending of the year but not respecting each months ending, or you want me to quit?

Hi Lorenzo
You have been such a valuable member of this forum for so long that it's obvious that YOU SHOULD NOT QUIT.
I have found and printed out hundreds of posts written by you where you have taken so much time to answer peoples' questions. You write excellent music and are so talented - I still remember your music for Lord of the Rings.....WOW....
So, I'm completely happy if you have to bomb out for this month. Just don't quit the group!!
What do other OSAM'ers think?

Actually Lorenzo, the way we initiated it allowed you to sluff a month or two without much repercussion. However, you would not get to "makeup" the month you missed.
But, if I may, for the record...an ugly song written within a few minutes is still writing one song a month. The goal is to force us to stick with a plan.
But if you need a month off, go for it. Just come back strong. And don't feel the need to make up.
I think we offered two months in a row with no more than 6 total months off per year. (Some are doing every OTHER month, but I don't remember who.)

Don't you dare quit!!
Seriously, this has been my worse month for time too, even if you post later on it will still count (only if you can). I know my Feb is a bit rough, and March is looking a bit the same, but it's the whole group, and of course writing new songs that count. You know how hard osam can be, and that's part of the appeal - it makes us strive and push on. It would be so easy to sit back and just take in the other guys work here, but I think we all look forward to listening to next new song posted (maybe more than our own sometimes) gives us inspiration too.
Post what you have, and finish it when ever, or wait and post one every month, one every two months, three every day - it's all good
There will be times when we have to say I can't continue, but knowing you I hope that time is not yet!

I think I can do something like this: I start to read your spamming post like "have you finished it?" "You f***** s****! you have to finish it! come on ......" and so on and work on it presenting the song as soon as will be ready pretending I miss an internet connection, or that my dog messed up my keyboards and similar... _________________ http://www.synthaddicted.com |

Hi!
I'm exactly in the same Lorenzo's condition: no time time to write, but a lot of ideas flowing in my mind.
To be honest, I got THE idea for the next song, and already started to put it together, but it's really a pain to get the sound I want, and having no time to find it makes me crazy.
BTW, I'll give up with something!
As the prev month, it will be a shoot up, brief, but nice _________________ Diego http://www.myspace.com/diegoinmusic

Well, my reponse is this: get something even a rough idea of the song posted before the month end. So I say, do an "ugly" song within the time frame. If this is just a short idea of what you want to do at least you've hit the deadline and you're still with us. I mentioned before that this committment is whatever each of us intend it to be. You don't have to post completed songs every month, but do post something. And since the checklist gets locked when the month is over you won't have your name checked off for the whole year. It seems there is a way for you to post something each month even if you're busy. I know it's sad not to be able to do your best and we understand that. I would have a hard time posting something less than I can do just to make a deadline. But you may have to. Because I think doing these songs very late is not the same as forcing ourselves to do a song every month, which is what the contract consists of. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

I agree with you about that point; as you see, I contributed a lot the last month commenting every step of songs, posting on the board...but now there is really no more time for nothing else different from work and personal issues
KF is one of the most important music related things I'm in touch with, so it count a lot for me to respect the OSAM contract. I'll do my best, just asking to be patient

mmm seems that the rules are changed in these years, in the first osam many people was in late and wasn't locked off. Anyway I think that this kind of restriction IS good, so this is my last thought in this topic: if I'll create something (an idea, a melody, a rythmic track, an intro for the song or even a single riff) I'll publish it, if I won't be able to do it, I'll continue to join this section of the forum as a listener... time to say my girlfriend that saturday night I'll stay at home with a terrible cold

Lorenzo, thank you for telling us your problems as well as your determination to stick with these deadlines. I wanted to be more strict this year because sometimes people post songs very late and it loses the impact of having these monthly deadlines. Anytime we create music that is a good thing, and we all want to do our best. However, this contract has its own unique twist in that it forces us to compose and produce in a more structured way and with more focus on time managment and priorities. So to do 12 songs in 16 months is not the same as 12 songs, whether polished or rough ideas, in 12 months. We all are sending positive energy to Italy and all over the world for everyone here. We are all here as a team one way or another. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Locking the post for the month certainly got me off my backside this time around. I've managed to get my songs in about a week before the deadline.
Last time I started off well, then finished later and later into the next month every time.
We need discipline!! Crack the whip, George !! |
