Now that is so true.... we hear our own pieces till we are sick of them and then wonder why everyone raves about them. This piece may have had a "simple" chord structure, but the arrangement really pushes it over the top.

That is what I loved about music in the 60's. Some of it was not very creative from the raw song point of view, but what they did in the studio was always interesting. While, for the most part, we are not as innovative because we have so many great tools to work with, there is still a lot of thought that has to go into to make it sound fresh simply because there is MUCH more music now than there was then AND it is more readily available for anyone to hear.

I actually kept listening to this one Ramones song that someone else remade and the verse part kept running thru my mind and I said, hey, that's a standard 50s or 60s style verse, like Jailhouse rock and that sort of thing, so why not just use that and change up the chorus and add a bunch of leads. But you're right that it's in how it's done. I mean you can take a good idea and fail in the execution. That's why we do need to hear these darn things 500 times because it's not until the 50th time that I even figure out that the bass setting is all wrong and too thin, or thick. Or it's too busy. Usually I start getting totally annoyed by something and then it dawns on me why it's so annoying so I either remove it completely or change the setting and then go on and on adding and subtracting. I do think that with more experience it's less painful and there are less false starts, but there aren't too many real shortcuts you can take without it beginning to show in the final mix. Unless you make every song sound the same, and that gets old really fast. A fine tuned fully honed sound will result in a well-tended polish that is evident in the end. And it's not something that is squashed with so much compression or other mastering tricks just to cover up the lack of inspiration or originality. Although I will say that it's often from very 'pop' stuff that I get ideas for mixing and sound effects. Also, I do get help thinking outside the box by listening to styles of music that I don't do, like jazz, or latin.

Good decision! I really like these tunes and their humoristic vibe (still remember that annual sex thing Smile )

Its all well executed and more pleasurable to listen to (IMHO) then your ultra loaded tracks from previous OSAM. Its sounds light and smooth as if you really had fun composing.

Forgive me George... I've have been out. Late responses...

I find the sounds you choose fascinating. I would never put these sounds together ..and yet they are perfect mix for this song. Your mix is precise as always. Your work with the lyrics are always excellent...excellent. We get to hear you improv some...that is great as well (must do more in upcoming months). How much time must you put in to your songs? You must really have a good process.

Thank you for doing the lead on this OSAM as Moderator and with your music. I am having a blast hearing all you guys. Great tune! Super Creativity!

Well, yes, I do put quite some time into my songs, which is even embarassing to say that it can take as long as it does, but as long as I end up with something people enjoy that's the objective. As for the lyrics, I had to limit myself here, because I could have come up with a whole slew of funny verses, but the song couldn't be like 10 minutes long, so I just kept the best ones. Being the Moderator has been my pleasure this time around. I was going back and forth on that, but then I realized that hey, you're not that busy all month with moderating, it's still the songs that take up all your time. The checklist part is really very easy. So thanks for your feedback. I do enjoy your pieces as well. I never know where they will take me either.

Ohh Man! This was a fun trip thru time and space - so many influences in there - much variety - clever mixup! My favorite part was the ending - complete with a zillion ending hits and a loose bass player - ha ha Laughing Laughing

Seriously though - this was too much fun. I am going to play it at my party this summer - outside and loud. I can just see us dancing to this - well some of us - the others will probably wonder what the hell we are listening to Smile

Cool

Dr Who, at least a couple of friends commented on the ending. I had fun with that, it was something of a reminisce of my live playing days, of course. We always went nuts at the end, even when it didn't sound good, it was powerful and fun. I'm so glad you like this. Would love to be at your party this summer, a little cosmic dance around the pool perhaps, hey that's an idea.

Ellll: you are such a kind support on these boards, may we do more of these OSAMs in the years to come. (Not sure I'll do another right away when this one is over though. I think I'll need at least a six month break or so.)

Just listened again myself.

The ending is a welcomed surprise. You never saw it coming in this type of song. It adds a sense of organic texture... like you mentioned, a live band trying to wrap things up.

What I particularly liked this time around was hearing the deliberateness of the percussion and bass and getting a whole lot happening around it that feels quite free. Even the vocals, though falling in meter with the song have a very free feel to them.

Again I love that vocoder effect. I will have to utilize that someone down the road when you ain't looking! Razz

Hi George

Just emerged from my place of torture to have a listen to your song.

This is soooo good - just about everything has been said already, but might I add that on vocals you are extremely good. I love the way you get the rhythm of the words just right with little inflections that are just perfect.

And I can hear how well produced everything is too.

Okay back I go ....dont' know what I'm going to come up with this month.

Regards from
Dee

What welcome praise indeed. My vocals are where I feel the most vulnerable and where I truly lack confidence. In this case I just said, hey, just do it and have fun and don't worry about the end result. Seems it hit the mark better by just letting it fly. Not sure how that may help me in my current song. Why is each such a struggle. Anyway, I'm confident that you will find your way thru your current challenge. I would think a simple first project might be prudent, rather than trying to learn everything and every option all at once. I know with my Triton Studio, I did simple dance loops chained together just to learn my axe.

Great tune George. It seems to get more confident and even zanier as it goes on. Great dance music.
