Well as a swede I really don't know. Obama's the one who seems to be the best and spontaneously I would go for him. But the thing is - I don't know why. Laughing
Cause media makes Obama look like the most reasonable candidate and it seems like he's very popular in America.

So, could anybody say what the different candidates stand for? What questions are most important to them?

So sad. Oh well.

We are free to do as they tell us.

Reminds me of a (very good) song... Adam Freeland - We Want Your Soul.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=VH_DkBI9Qsk

... actually it's as much to do with capitalism, but I digress.

Cause media makes Obama look like the most reasonable candidate and it seems like he's very popular in America.

So, could anybody say what the different candidates stand for? What questions are most important to them?
Here goes the raw essences:

John McCain: During the primary, John McCain promised to continue the Iraq War for 50 or 100 years if necessary. Just last week, he said most troops will be out by 2013.
McCain wants to continue the Bush Tax cuts for the wealtiest Americans.
2 years ago he wanted to talk to Hamas, but now he attacks Obama for wanting to talk to Iran, even when Bush's secretary of Defense Robert Gates said we MUST talk to Iran and Syris, as they will be stabilizers in the region with a decreased US role.
On a positive note, he is one of the few conservatives who admits Global Warming is real, and has taken fairly liberal stands regarding necessary actions.

Hillary Clinton: Is currently no longer a legitimate candidate. The numbers make it impossible for her. She may play a role in the election, by slowly easing her supporters over to Barack, or not.
An interesting policy position of hers, is a faux-national healthcare system, run by the same for-profit healthcare insurance companies which are currently raping the pockets of working Americans, and denying coverage to sick people based on pre-exisitng conditions.
Basically, she wants a mandate on coverage in the current system, making it illegal not to purchase a health insurance policy, no matter ones' life situation. Much like Auto Insurance.
She's also threatened to "Obliterate Iran" if they touch Israel.

Barack Obama: Has opposed the Iraq War from the start. Vows to begin troop pullout as soon as possible. Wants to end Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy, and institute a healthcare system much like Hillary Clinton's, but with a mandate only on parents, and many other details closer to the Western/Northern European system than Clinton's.
With the help of a Republican, created an easy to use database/search engine for federal spending, accessible to all US citizens.
Wants to change the nature of corporate lobbying in Washington, both with limiting regulations, and full transparency/disclosure for all meetings between members of congress and lobbyists.
Wants to end all no-bid govt. contracts (like Halliburton's contract in Iraq[Halliburton is Vice President Cheney's former corp.])

I think it would be easier this way Cool :

Thanks for the summary, alpha80! That makes the whole thing much clearer. Smile

Maybe the attention around Barack are legitimate after all.

Thanks again! Smile

If I was lamerican I would have liked to have gone for Huckleberry (or whatever his name is) but his policy base was too short methinks. That leaves McCain as the only legitimate choice of the above. I also dispute the communists getting two candidates in the poll. It's like it is here - they split into three parties then milk the preferences system as the right choices only run against each other in 2 electorates (the communists then effectively get 3 votes for every 1 in all but those 2 electorates)

Communism is a proven epic failure and people in a free democratic country have the right to choose and command their own destiny (otherwise it really isn't a free country)

Obama for the win.

But... I'm [rather thankfully] not American. Wink

Although these days I'd rather not be British either.
