maybe it's the karma setting, i know if i'm messing around with karma then i can't hear the track play, i haven't figured out the settings completely yet to help with that, but my question is, if you simply play around in combi mode with various combis are they sounding good and how you think they should sound, meaning the other tracks are playing as well, and if you start up a new song from scratch without loading any presets can you play at least the default piano sound in each of the tracks, if so, then it's just that you haven't learned how to set all the various parameters to get them working properly, have you tried loading a template song into sequencer? that should get your things set up with some usuable defaults to allow you to sequence in whichever genre you choose, those are working fine for me. I would advise against messing around with preset combis too much and trying to tweak or modify them if you're brand new, as they have many invisible elements loaded into them and can be very profound to figure out, since you weren't the one to make all those settings the way they are in there and can be quite tough to figure out _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

No when i start a new song from scratch i can only play the piano on track1. i no how to select different instruments for each track in seq mode but problem is that when i select the button next to track ">" , select the midi track to play say track 2, my midi keyboard controler stil plays track 1. so it bassically cannot recieve midi input signals from the keyboard on any track other than track 1. but it can output sounds because the combis play fine. |

if you have any foot switches or sustain pedals or damper pedals unplug them, that sometimes causes problems with these kboards _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

I see that when I change the track, the M3 keyboard will always play that track.
Now if I use an external controler, the M3 will ignore the selected track and play the channel that the controller is sending.
I didn't see any settings to change this behaviour, which I would consider as a bug. I would expect that MIDI received on the global channel would make that controller behave like the M3 keyboard.
So, unless I'm missing something, your best bet is to change the channel of your external controler, everytime you want to play a different track.
It's a pain as you may miss a recording, playing on channel 5 but recording channel 6.
Anyway, check the manual for using the seq with an external controler, there must be some trick, I can't believe that korg missed something that big. |

No Prog or Combi, he tries to use the M3 Seq(uencer) with an external controller.
The problem is that the track selection (just under the song name) doesn't act as an input channel re-mapper but as an output re-mapper.
So when using an external controller with the M3 / M3 Rack, you have to set the channel on the controller itself (or thru software).
In other words:
If the channel of track 2 is set to channel 2, then the only way to play that track is to have the controller send the MIDI on channel 2.
Which makes sense when using a software sequencer but can be a pain when using just an external contoller(keyboard), as on some of them, changing the output channel may be as simple as pressing a button, then holding a specific key, then pressing 3 extra keys to enter the channel number and then hit the first button again , not exactly what I would call fun ...
This is not a problem when using the M3 "internal" keyboard, as changing the track selection will automatically select the correct channel. |

Aghh - thank you for the explanation. I will have this problem when I get my TS and M3 talking to each other. I note that this isn't M3 specific - but applies to all synths.
The only help I can think of is if the external controller provides for keymapping ranges to specific midi channels.
There is a general midi-in mapper on the M3, but maybe that won't help. _________________ Care for a jelly baby?
