Cool stuff!.... I am amazed at you amount of things you are successfully doing. You have a lot going on, you know what you like and you are making money doing it. I am amazed and envious. It was a excellent interview. He let you be longwinded because you were doing such a good job. Thanks for posting this.

Every once in a while, I think about getting back into music. Too much debt, too many mouths to feed and I haven't found the right situation. At the end of this July, I get to see the band I missed as a youngster. They are the band I most regretted missing, Return to Forever (with Dimeola, Clake and White). http://www.youtube.com/user/ReturnToForeverTV
Right after the concert, I am going to be hanging out with a bass player who lived with and studied with Jaco Pastorus. I hear that he is awesome. He is probably looking for players like myself to play with. He plays upright bass, fretless and standard fretted bass. I will be probably be so pumped after the concert that I will have to find a way to play with this cat. The genre I love......makes it hard to find a competent players with something to say musically. The fans are far fewer.....so the playing and the arrangements must be awesome. I have done enough playing out that I don't want to settle for less that something very exiting and evolving. Plus I need to maintain money for family. It is scarry stuff finding the right niche. Maybe I need to start with your kind of confidence and drive. You gave me somethings to think about!

I better start working on the music for the month. Thanks again, hermano!

Thanks for listening to it. Return to Forever is awesome. What no Chick? All the synth things he did in that group was awesome. I also was a fan of MO. Dimeola was amazing as well. I got to see the Clark/Duke project once and they were so funky talented I could have cried.

That feels like a long time ago (ha I guess it was now). I still enjoy some jazz but limit it to the more accessible pop sounding stuff.

Hey Jaz - I am going to RTF in Boston. Yea - times have changed - the audience is smaller - I was too young when they were together - but they had a huge influence on me! I've seen Rights Of Strings, adn Chic's EBand several times.

Dude - I am jealous that you'll be hangin' w/some serious dudes!!! Enjoy it man - its a great opportunity!

Just finished listening to your interview - really enjoyed it.

I get the 'musical snobbery' thing you mention! Some classical musicians are like that too.

And I could also relate to that process of trying to discover the sounds that you are hearing in your head, when you record a song. For me it is terribly debilitating because I can't use the tools at my disposal very well yet, so my songs tend to turn out according to the best I can coax out of my equipment, rather than how I heard them in my head. But I also 'hear' them, sometimes as a whole, like the one I just did for June.

Looking forward to your CD - hope you're putting "Leave" on it Very Happy

I am in the last moments of going through and scrutinizing each song...namely getting rid of the things that have always bothered me. I have a few songs that are in the works, one for July for OSAM and hopefully the last song for August which has not even come to me yet. But August is a good month creatively for me, at least in the past.

Also, I am really enjoying picking this album to pieces. Polish is a good thing, but I have to keep it in it's place. That is the hardest part: knowing when to say ENOUGH!

That was an excellent interview. Wow - what a background! I enjoyed the your history and your description of how you compose. We all do it differently - which I find very interesting.

In fact, I actually need to play / hear some music to get inspired. So for me all my tunes are working at the keyboard / bass seeing what I can get it to do, then feeding that back in to organize.

So your into music professionally, where as I am just a hobbyist. I don't think I could do it professionally - would seem to much like work. For me it is an escape thing. So I am impressed with your ability to enjoy it on a professional level.

Great interview Jon, really interesting stuff. Nice to hear some of the songs within the context of the interview.

Something you said reminded me about my early multitrack recording experiences. Looks like we both had similar ideas by using two cassette recorders. I use to record the organ to one, and then bounce more tracks back and forth, I wonder where those old tapes are now.

Oh yea...that is it...except in black. It had a hole in the bottom where you could adjust the speed with a screwdriver to speed up or slow down the tape. I used it to death!

Ha. You wonder where those old tapes are eh? Well I happen to have a few of mine! My oldest actually goes back to the early 80's and a recording of my either my Polysix or Poly61...or maybe the 800. I forget. And it is hard to tell because the sounds were close (from what I remember) on those.

How about I post a snippet tomorrow and someone tell me what it is from, eh?

In a critical fail...I think this was an early song I did on this mystery synth with patches I created...or maybe not. If you know the synth and patches, lemme know.

This is probably around 1982-ish...playing with the sounds...
