|
|
Several years ago I wrote a song called Taste The Wine. It was originally intended to end up on the album I am currently working on, Pop Junkie. To make the project complete I decided to revisit the song and rework it from the ground floor up.
The result is the song I intended it to be. Since it would not qualify to fall under our ongoing One Song A Month, I decided to post it here for feedback.
Thanks for listening.

Very smooth song.
Simple architecture to it and very well produced. Liked it a lot.

Cool song Jon,
I really like that acoustic guitar
A nice laid back feel to it, makes you want to listen to the lyrics.
After only a few plays it sounds so familiar, really catchy. _________________ Chordial |

There is something distracting in the guitar and I can't quite figure out what it is, it's either a bit too loud, or there needs to be another pad behind it to smooth it out or something. What is there is perfect but I was focused on the acoustic guitar all the way thru. Also, while I love the theme here, and much of the visual color in the lyrics, it seems that some oppurtunities to strengthen the true meaning of the song are missed, especially in the last verse. I'm not sure if it's something I would even recommend doing in this late stage as the vocals are just gorgeously performed and I love how they sound. But the last verse leaves me confused as to what it actually means to stop and taste the wine. I think there are a lot of metaphors here that don't all line up especially the waltz on the heart's drum, it's clever but if this were my song, and this is entirely subjective here, I would try to make that last verse say exactly what the wine represents and resolve the distraught emotion here, I'm not sure if it's good that he's now alone, or he'll never get over this, or he wants the lover to suffer like he has. I'm wondering if it wouldn't add more to the song to bring in some wine metaphors and strengthen the theme there. This is nit-picky and merely an introspective take on how I might approach a project such as this. If you want a knee-jerk reaction though, this is radio worthy, especially your two part harmony is just beautiful and if you don't do much else to this you probably have a hit here. Lord knows, there are great songs that dont even make any sense at all. Good luck for sure on your cd. I know I'll want one, I promise you that. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Just catching up on so many good songs missed over the last bit.....first thing I love about this is your backing vox......harmonies are "deadly"....the tune fits my ears nicely. Bravo Jon!
CHEERS!

Very nice song.
I like the touch with the guitars having that very short silence in them. Nice vocals, and all the pieces of the song fit nicely together.
I also like that Mellotronish sound a bit into the song. |
