Well, folks. I thought I'd never get to post this here at KF, so excuse me if I'm not posting on the first day of the month as I usually do. However, that being said, ....... introducing 2loose on the M3. Be afraid, be very afraid. Actually, the only scarey thing here is the length, sorry.

AMONG MY PHOTGRAPHS:

Can I shoot a photograph of you
I’d like to make it pixel perfect
Can I shoot
When I try to see what’s in your eyes
Seems I cannot hold the focus
When I try
Hurry hurry hurry
Step right this way
See our love in living color
Hanging in display
But you aren’t there
I caught an empty chair
As if your life has turned the corner
You aren’t there
In the stars is where I keep the scars
Testament of what you did to me
In the stars

Each room is full of color
The frames are black and blue
And there’s a looking glass
That people wander through

OOO, OOO, it wasn’t always good
Dark days, dark skies, rumbling across frozen lands
OOO, OOO, and when the storms came
How we ran for cover toward the swirling colored lights
Of that club where we met on the dance floor
A thick fog of loneliness and hunger
But now the bar is gone and all I see are tears
When I take my camera out, an emptiness appears
It’s not as if I’m all alone as life is everywhere
The night is clear and I see candles floating in the air

Nicely done George Smile

I've been waiting to hear how you would 'drive' the M3.
The first thing I hear is the layering of different sounds, lots of analogue sounds too.
Great lyrics, a slightly darker direction too.

Nothing wrong with the song length to me, there's nothing static or boring, in fact it almost bounces along!
Thought I could hear a nod to depeche mode at the end, cool.

Cheers Simon

Thank you Simon. Actually, while the length and construction doesn't really lend itself to club music, I do think that the beginning part is actually like a Part 1, as opposed to an introduction and the outro if you will is actually a celebration of the relationship. So you put your life or lives together in the first long section then after some vocal events describing the drama of moments in poetic pictures, then you dance off the memories. So I think there is a balance there that way. I do like a lot of the new sounds on the M3. While my style is still very evident here, some of the lead sounds are not even possible on the TS, the main lead is Radias anyway.

Hi George,

You already read my comments, but I'll post them here as well.

Hey Zappa meet Primus - more Zappa I think. Maybe a hint of Depeche mode at the end.

Interesting - even though u r using the M3 - your tune doesn't sound drastically different than your TS tunes. It still sounds like you. Hmm .. now after listening a few times over the past day - Man I really love the intro.! Its like where is he going with this - anticipation Smile I like the talking lyrics part at the end, and how your phrase the lyrics. Mix is nice and bright - lyrics are clear. From about 3:55 on - I can almost hear some sort of screaming guitar solo in the background. You've got the melody in there and BG vocals to back it up.

Wow - it is all of 5 mins.! That goes by fast.

I need to try to get my mind around vocals - after listening to your music for so long - I am hoping your approach to vocals would start to wear off on me Wink

Speaking of vocals, that is by far the hardest part of my production. I dread doing them and do not enjoy, mainly because I approach these tunes vaguely non-melodic so I'm just talking and singing along with the song over and over and I can never decide how my voice should sound, and after all that work on the music, the song seems to change so much by adding the voice that I'm never sure if the vocal and music really complement each other. It's at this stage that i often get discouraged and begin thinking that the song is not really that great anyway and I fight the urge to scrap it. But I press on, mainly because of the positive feedback I've received on other tunes and I try to bolster myself up to finish. Once it's done though, what fun to share and discuss. These forums make it much more meaningful and give me a better sense of direction.

That is interesting - because to us - your vocals are part of your trade mark. And so when I think how you might create your tunes, I think of the vocals as being a more positive event rather than a struggle. Funny how we perceive things differently - eh?

We all have our own processes for composition - interesting that you don't really start out with the vocals - I thought the opposite.

As always, I totally love your arrangments...
I still can't figure out how many attention you put on details, all it's perfect, well balanced, all fits and nothing it's out of the place where it should be.
Sorry, but I've really nothing negative to say about your september song Embarassed

Hi George,

Well...At least a few are getting on with the details....!! VERY NICE indeed....

The driving rhythmic element is just really On The DEAL!!! great sound.,..This really ROCKS!!!

Love the bass line or (whatever it is).... it really says a lot by itself...

The lyrics are just greatt as usual...Great Ideas here....

You pull off one right after another..., seems to me... This requires some real listenin' to get the meat ....

The DRIVE of the sound is the killer element in this one for sure!!! GREAT TUNE!!!,... George...!!!

Regards!!! John (ellll) Very Happy

I like this.

There are so many elements that come together, that make it interesting. Reminds me of something right out of the 80s really... seems reminiscent of Murray Head., if you recall him.

I would personally prefer a heavier or deeper percussion/beat but I think it works well.

I know what you mean about dreading doing vocals. Sometimes it seems like you have everything set and it sounds great, then you try to record the vocals and it just won't come together.

Hi George,

On this one again..., and hoping it will help a few others take an interest...and get back with us soon...

Still am totally floored by the power-rhythm here...!!! It is a KEEPER for sure...A real photo is all that's needed on this!!

It gets better with listening for sure...It has such a hot set of lyrics as well...I LOVE the contrast in the two voice methods near the end!!!! Great song I believe...Keep it up....!!!

See you later...John (ellll) Very Happy

Elll, we are lucky to have you, your ears and your good heart. It helps me leaps and bounds to hear positive feedback, you have no idea. I get to points on almost every song where I doubt myself so much that I can barely keep the hope alive to push the envelope once again. I am just getting past that point on my next song and these kind words do really help. Believe it or not, the phrasing of the lyrics are based on Ain't She Sweet, a song I heard recently and I got the idea to copy the meter for the verse sections. And the beat I take as almost a swing rock if that even makes sense. Also, I took some inspiration from vaudeville, with the show of pictures. Not sure if this makes sense but those were my inspirations.

Fatalmasterpiece: Not familiar with that artist, but now I'm curious. I don't really know what style of music this is, but I am stuck in the 80s, for better or worse. I think it's mostly the synth pop thing and how popular that music was back then. I find the urban thing a bit to 'rap' sounding usually so I revert to more vintage sounds and rhythms.

Diego: I took 3 months on this song more or less and I'm glad you can see the results of all that hard work. I tweaked and changed every single note over and over and the voice I did at least 3 times. changing the lyrics and the way I was singing it. I almost threw this out because I got so tired of working on it. But now I'm glad I finished. My next piece is not coming very easily. I'm trying to do a Halloween piece, but it's not scarey. Oh well....

I have given you these comments elsewhere but will reiterate them here:

What can I say? This is fantastic. Electropop/Club at it's best. Nothing out of place. You really went out on a limb with the vocals and the payoff is nothing short of fantastic. The blends are good, the recording is clean.

The song- your lyrics always astound me. There is so much that hides between the lines, yet you say what you need to and get the point across. Having the "eyes" equate as a camera (if I understand the metaphor here) is far from cliched. You introduced it in a new fashion giving us the good with the bad of the vision.

Great job!

Jon Solo

Additional- what I see is a nice creative shaping in your music. There are times when I do a track that I walk away and feel like I have done something new, but these days that is quite rare. But it is clear you are expanding. I hope to take this as a personal inspiration and attempt to try new things (and I have LOTS of new things I have not tried...insert quote from Steve Carell of The Office here).

Jonsolo: this trying new things is both my curse and my blessing. I find I can't enjoy working on a song that sunds like one I wrote already, and yet to keep pushing beyond into new territory is quite exhausting. I wonder if you have the time to do it, with your schedule. What I do often is, after listening to an unusual song somewhere I'll take a few elements of that and combine them with a beat I was playing around with and see if I get some excitement there, I find so many false starts that it does get quite frustrating. Also, I worry that it's not a good idea to produce a cd that is so disjointed and eclectic. I usually don't like cds that each song is a totally different genre, yet when all the song sound the same, I do find it hard to listen all the way thru a whole cd. Also, it's all synth work so that maybe ties it all together.

Hello George

So this is you with the M3! Congratulations! You are really really good at what you do!

Those opening lead sounds - really squeezy retro and then the build up to where the vocals come in. All those counter-melodies - it all just fits SO WELL. I hear all sorts of music represented here through the harmonies you use - there's this amazing crossover happening without it seeming to be a crossover because the end result is so fresh and different-sounding.

This is really great for a first time on your new gear. I will listen another few times - love the beat track!

Regards from
Dee Very Happy

P.S. and thanks for keeping this OSAM alive! I'll try to get something up for September - am still caught somewhere between the old gear and the new gear Confused

Dee, I'm so glad you were able to get what I was trying to do here. I am caught a bit in the gear trap too, and thus I'm still sequencing the same methods I was doing on the m3, only I have new sounds now to select from. I need to learn how to use some of the newer bells and whistles like the kaoss padd thing and the karma 2 technology which is awesome, but I haven't figured out how to use it other than just grab a pre-fab combi and try to twist it into a song.
