And dude it paid off. The vocoder effects rock! I love the rave sounds you use too. It adds an interesting dimension to the feel of the track, especially when and where you do the key changes. I loved hearing a 303 type of bass in the mix as well.
HA! Great words! "I funk like punk when I get up on yo junk" CLASSIC! Your genre metaphors did not get past me. I know your tricks.
This song is fun from beginning to end. Lots of dynamics, good musical phrasing, and infectious beat. What really feels comfortable to me about this song is that it never clutters me. You always have so much going on, especially percussive-wise in your songs, yet it never seems to get in the way. Even with a driving kick, which was tucked in just right since you had the on/off pulsating bass line, the song never lost it's identity in the beat.
The wound up sound really added intensity to the song which was interesting because the song is so playful. Another great one for the club!

Wow - That was so much fun! I was dancing around the house ... my cat thought I was NVTS nuts!.
Yes - the vocoder effect was freakin' awesome, and the sounds tempo was good, as were all the sounds. I am going to being this to our next dance exchange party which is in 2 weeks to get some Hustle feedback on it.
Interesting bass line - I like the intermittent pulse pattern, and that it is off during the little up hook (that's a hard core 2loose style maneuver). You really know how to put tunes together. Man that tempo slow up @ 3:38 was so freakin' cool man !!! There are so many things going - without being too complicated - which makes for a killer dance tune - there is always something fun to key off of.
I don't know where you get ur inspiration man - but keep 'em coming.
I am jealous of this tune - I want to write a dance tune that would get played around locally - and now you've set the bar very high !!!!
I can't believe you wanted to scrap this - it is beyond cool - it is classic !!

Well, Jonsolo, you saved this from the scrap heap. After your very encouraging PM regarding my reading Tunesmith, I decided to give this one more shot. The main pitfall for all of us is ear fatigue, and believe me, after I've gone to a project nearly every day for 2 or 3 weeks, it loses all it's original oomph. So I have to go on the belief that my original excitement for the loops will pay off in the end. I think the lack of clutter is perhaps all the editing I do. I listen carefully for any voices that overlap too much, or when something kicks in and overpowers another sound. Although with this style I thought it needs to be really busy with funny sound effects and peeps and swirls and overwhelming at least in the peak spots. I wonder if you or someone here has access to listening to this song really loud on good speakers and let me know if it's eq'd properly for a club setting. I have only heard this with headphones and they aren't that great for dance tunes.
Drwho: you could jazzercise to this and lose some serious weight. Anyway, if you do bring this song to a party, do let me konw how it's received. My friends at work went quite nuts for it and were dancing around the office while the boss was gone. The vocoder was a breakthru as I couldn't figure out how to get it recorded. The final way was so simple. I listened to the instrumental version on my mp3 player with headphones and simply spoke the words into the mic in time to the music while playing the melody on the keyboard. I sampled this session and converted it to a program. I did this portion in program mode. Then in sequencer mode I laid the sample where it needed to be. That was the only way I could time the voice thru the vocoder as I couldn't get the settings to work in sequencer mode. Now that I've done this I can do it again quite easily. And the best part is I can simply use the settings that come pre-set with the vocoder effects on the m3 and then tweak from there. I may even try the radias vocoder for fun on my next tune. Thank you for your support here. I know you are a huge fan and great influence on my work. I hope I inspire you as well. I know you have a lot of great tunes inside you too still waiting to come out. It's just so much work and a very difficult in the execution of our ideas. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Thank you Stephen. If these tunes come off as sounding effortless, don't let that fool you. Every song I do is it's own nightmare. I reach a point in almost every song where I lose faith and feel it's not going to come together, but in the 11th hour, or is it the 111th hour... _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Looks like the picture was taken in your office, mad!
Very upbeat, and it sounds immaculate in production, arrangement and playing.
Another infectious and catchy song, with all the 2L elements.
Can't wait to try this through my speakers at home. _________________ Chordial |

George, every month you post your next song just after I post my current month entry...
And I always feel so embarassed, as you hit the spot every month, I'm simply wordless!
I can't understand lyrics, but all is nearly perfect; as you know, I love your arrangments, I love the way you put attention on every detail and the sounds you choose..
Great month entry, you get better every month, if you can even get better as you always seem to reach the perfection! _________________ Diego http://www.myspace.com/diegoinmusic

George - thanxs for the vocoder process - I have not tried it like that. Maybe you can add that to Karma's wiki.
Oh you're a big influence on me for sure
BTW - how did you do that down tempo trick?

The downtempo is simply a measure of 3/4 time. I didn't actually change the tempo or bpm, but I quantized the drums as triplets, a trick I often do to change up the beat for a short section. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

GreatSong, my friend!!,
WoW it really has a neeeet disco sound with an amazing variety of material.... It also does have some neat lyrics as well....
I am unable to comment on the general or specific Fx and instrumentation; it is just SPOT ON..., if I understood what you are doing , and I probably more than anyone here would LOVE to be able to do this fantastic rhythmic basis ...
The issue of the duple/triple down-tempo or even more complex rhythms ARE well understood and used at times by me...; .. in a classical sense...
BUT TO DO it WELL in disco requires a certain verve, and a "FORGETTING" of the "taught" mechanics of it all....., and lettin' it all hang out!!!!.... THAT IS WHAT YOU DO...Very Well!!!! As a result, we DON'T know what you did..., and to me, that's real composition.... GREAT WORK!!!
As said, the production is simply GREAT...
Thanks George for this new feel from you!!
Regards John (ellll) |

John, I'm so glad you like this. I had some real trouble here as I could not get a fun feel and all I could get was the basic beat but no variation. Then after a few breakthrus it all came together. Then the lyrics were very ho-hum, but I found a funny vein to follow so that helped a lot. I can keep a good beat, but to keep it interesting and make it memorable is always quite a challenge. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Hi George,
its interesting what you said about changing the time signature during the song. It certainly gives an interesting effect and I should try it out sometime. The thing with recording vocals on an mp3 player in order to process it further gives some insight as to the effort you put into all this. It was certainly worthwile with the (soundwise) 'nostalgic' bass line and lirics that are truly off the scale lol...
December will be the final episode of this osam, what do you plan to do next?

Thanks for the comments Sewa, actually, I'm ready to post my next song. It's supposed to be art rock, but I'm not sure if that's what it turned out to be. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose
