Hi all,
Just picked up my M50, moving on from a yamaha mo6.

On the MO6, there's a "pattern" mode where you could select tracks one by one, record, and set loops, all like with the M50. Only on the MO, it will continuously loop, and you could build up songs that way, by bringing in intstuments one by one, and having different phrases.

I am not sure how to record this way, if possible, on the M50.

I see that you can record tracks and loop them by measure range individually,, but it appears that the only way to record is to just have one long song. If i record 4 measures of a drum beat or piano chords and set to loop, it will only loop for the length of the song, which if it only consists of that track, will only be 4 measures, no loop.

So is there a way to build infinite loop patterns? or is the only way to record on the M50 to start at measure 1 and go to the last measure?

Sorry i'm not too familiar with lingo, hope i got my question across semi-intelligently.

if you record in loop mode, the M50 will add any note or midi command on top of the currently playback measures; e.g. if you loop a 4 beat pattern, from measure 1 to 4, and record in loop mode, everything will be added in measure 1 to 4.

if you want to repeat the loop, let say, from measure 1 to 32 have to copy the original patter in the other measure using the Copy function in the menu and then record normally starting from measure 1.

you can also record on different Songs (meaning Song 000, song 001, song 002 of the sequencer) all the song piece, e.g. chorus, bridge, solos.... , and then using the clue list function to have them played in the order you prefer.

So the common way to record is to give each phrase its own "song", then use cue list to put it all together. This sounds much better than having 1 song file and having to plan the entire thing out in advance!

yeas, in this way you can change song "format" with minimum effort, have not to cut and paste to repeat a chorus or to insert a new bridgem simply change the cue list, when you are finally satisfy you can told to merge everything in a single M50 Song.

What would be the best way to e-mail an M50 song to bandmates who need to hear it in an audio format? (Mp3, Wav, etc).

Is there an internal file format converter/exporter?

no, the M50 can only export MIDI file (0 and 1 format) or .SNG file (Korg proprietary format).

in the M3 you have capabilities using sampling to create a WAV direclty in the M3.

Usually with our bandmate, we send each other either a DAW project if we use same software (Sonar, Cakewalk...) or mp3 file. wave file a very large and could be a problem sending it via mail or uploading on an online storage.
if you do not like loss related to mp3 compression, can try other compressed format with no loss as .Flac
