Hi,

Does anyone know the MSB and LSB numbers for selecting programmes/combinations on the expansion boards over midi? I know the internal bank commands, but I can't find out which numbers to use to select the external banks a-f.

The first two events should happen one right after the other (not on the same tick), and must be the continuous controllers (Bank Select controller #0 and #32). The order does not matter. The third event is the program change and must also happen after the CC's.

Hi Dave,

As a follow up, do you know how to select combination banks as well. I'm writing a Cubase Patch script and selecting different combinations is the next challenge.

I don't use Cubase so I'm guessing at what you want to do here. You can simply hit the appropriate Mode button (Program or Combination) on the synth's front panel and the same numbers will work with that Mode.

If, however, you're not near the synth, you can use the following sysex strings to change Mode remotely:

Combi:
F0 42 30 50 4E 00 F7

Prog:
F0 42 30 50 4E 02 F7

Multi:
F0 42 30 50 4E 04 F7

Sampling:
F0 42 30 50 4E 06 F7

Global:
F0 42 30 50 4E 07 F7

Disk:
F0 42 30 50 4E 08 F7

For Combis and Programs, follow these sysex strings with bank and program select numbers. For Multis, follow with song selects (if you have multiple Multis already set up).

I didn't realise that the Combis would use the same LSB MSB numbers as programme mode.

Just so that you know, I'm writing a script which is imported into Cubase and allows me to select Programmes or Combinations from within the Cubase arrange window by name. I'm writing this by catagory rather than patch number order so all my strings, brass etc are grouped.

Writing these things is very labour intensive (any mistakes and the thing won't load) but worthwhile. I've done it for all my other synths but never quite got round to doing it for my Triton Rack.

I use Macs which provide patchlist functionality with .midnam files (XML). I used to write all my own by hand. This, I agree, was a laborious and tricky task. Just one tiny error and everything was out of whack.

These days I use an app called Cherrypicker which makes it all simple, quick, and more or less foolproof. Cherrypicker will also create categorised banks for any instrument if the user wishes.
