Still trying to combine dance club, electronica and campy glam stuff. This isn't really glam as much as farce or satire. Anyway, for what it's worth. At least I finally got enough money in the budget to hire a cast of thousands to chant "long live 2loose" That was a dream come true. Standing up on the balcony waving at the peasants. It was Evita all over again.

Great Dictator

I’m from Mars
You’re from Venus
No revolt can
Come between us

I’m in charge now
Call me czar
Roll me up my
Own cigar

Snap my fingers
You get down
Dress me up
In khaki brown

Stand here waving
To the masses
Opiate for
Lower classes

You’re the peasant I’m the man
Let’s play great dictator
Take my will as your command
Let’s play great dictator

You be Cher
And I’ll be Che
In my soldier’s
Green Beret

Come here now
And flick my ashes
I’ll be growing
Two mustaches

You’re the peasant I’m the man
Let’s play great dictator
Take my will as your command
Let’s play great dictator

So can you play with me?
Sugar sweet, love me completely?
So can you lay with me?
Holding me?
Take a break from burning books
Let’s make my successor
Want a son with my good looks
Miniature oppressor

Feed me mangos in the tango
Horizontal hot fandango
Taste the bravery, something savory
On my lollipop of slavery

You’re the peasant I’m the man
Let’s play great dictator
Take my will as your command
Let’s play great dictator

You’re too cute for me to shoot
Crouching down to lick my boot
Don’t resist when you’re kissed
By a handsome communist

its good.
I can see a lot of work went into this, there are many short, snappy sounds, giving a feeling of space in the mix, yet it is actually quite full.

some of the sounds are very cheesy but I guess that is the approach you are going for, it has this eighties feel but at the same time is very modern, don't really know where to place it!

there is a definate collision of genres and styles here but it works really well Smile

The energy kicks in right off, I immediately started bouncing in my chair.

I really love;
" So can you play with me?
Sugar sweet, love me completely?
So can you lay with me?
Holding me?"

A departure for you, and I love it!

This is definitely a 2loose favorite for me!
Very Happy

really great OSAM start! I see you didn't loose your path and still growing in every aspect of music, from the production to the lyrics. Again, great OSAM opening!
Regards, Lorenzo

Lorenzo: Thank you for stopping by. I hope I am growing in my music. I feel stuck sometimes, often actually, and I end up doing songs that sound nothing like what I pictured when I was first inspired.

Stephen: this one does start off with a bang. I was afraid of leaving the vocals in the bridge part, but you're not the only one who really likes it that way, that was a first take by the way. Maybe I should do more singing, it's just that I hate my singing voice. I did do a lot of precessing on it though to add a sort of vibratto effect.

xtrade: i'm not even sure I was going for cheesy, but some of the chirps etc are cheesy, i suppose. i hope i can suceed in creating these style collisions and make them into my own signature sound. i do like retro music but only when it sounds fresh and relevant and original

Hi George!!

Great as usual, with new ideas...... and this one doesn't desire strongly sung lyrics.... (as I hope to hear more of in the future...)! Shocked Actually, It does fine with your well improved singing voice as it is used here!!!!

Love the text of the lyrics...very clever. I believe these are some of your best lyrics! The sound is also strong and supported overall; some real energy from the start as mentioned already...You never lets us down for a really fun, but sometimes serious presentation!!

My Regards...John (ellll) Very Happy

I'm so glad you like my lyrics. This encourages me to continue working on my next song, which is nearly done but has no lyrics. I get so stuck with lyrics, and then when I finally get something, often I can't even imagine how I'm going to do the vocals to do the lyrics justice. I was worried that there is nothing dictator-ish about the music, but maybe that's ok, and it would be too cliche to always think you have to have some gimmick in the music, afterall i was able to get a crowd shouting effect, which i thought helped it sound like communist dictator music.

George... you did it again! that music makes you want to move
there are always unique combinations of "old" and "new" in your music like 80's sounds polished with 2009 sound, 80's groove that's also 2009 dance floor groove, i love the variations you make with your voice it is most theatrical and helps the lyrics get much more significance

Long live 2loose Cool

(i'm really embarrassed of my English and i hope i managed to express what i feel here)

Thank you so much for 'getting' what i'm trying to do here, i find myself getting more and more into whatever this is I do, and i feel that a new version of me is coming out thru these songs, i'm not sure where i'm going but i know i'm enjoying the journey of discovery, do what comes natural and the rest will follow, i forget who said that....

Very interesting.

I think the lyrics are great. The vocals are definitely weird, but to my surprise it works well for the song. The production is pretty much flawless, but I think that the keyboard tone in the beginning that repeats (0:16) could use some reverb. It sounds a little out of place without it. And I was also thinking that you should use the "long live 2loose" a little more in the song. It sounds pretty cool, and would probably sound awesome with some of the beats behind it without the vocals.

Good work.

Hi George, cool tune, I liked the way you brought an old and new feel to the music, a good beat to tap my feet to. The lyrics are good, different to what I'm used to, Frank Zappa comes to mind when I listened to the vocal sound. Keep up the good work.

Joe

Hi George,

Yes U R 2loose! Oh man - you crazy lyricist you! I'm not sure you would be a good dictator though Wink

Top notch production - all is clearly audible - nice array of EFX - some more cheesy than others - but you fit them together. This is part of the collision of styles - a bit of Zappa here etc...

I will say you had me nervous in the beginning with Mars Venus thing.

Cheers,

={> Art

Drwho: So you caught the Venus thing, I wanted to do a rhyme with Venus and yet not go where people would expect it to go. Little trick. Yes, the styles do stack up here, I'm not sure where I was headed, I've been just toying with dance beats and layering synth pads and bells and whistles and trying to keep it interesting and a bit outside my usual box. for some reason my bridge portions are surprising me and coming more easily than they used to, i'm wondering what a song would sound like if i approached it with the same methods i use for writing my bridges, which is to string a series of harmonies and chord changes, whereas i usually do my verse and chorus by just finding a rhythmic lick that i stick to with only minor variations.

joet63: Lyrics come very hard for me, believe it or not. It's the hardest part and I'm stuck on my next song's lyrics at the moment.

pumpkin king: I do think I'm not that crazy about that sound you mentioned and if I did revisit this I might pick out a different effect for that. Actually I have almost no reverb at all on the whole song. I do want to do more of the vocoder thing in future songs, this one turned out pretty cool i think.

Was this a little dirty? Surprised

In the bridge the synth line mirrors the melody which seems a bit simplistic within your whole arrangement.

Love the break after OPPRESSOR. Just long enough to hear the bass decay.

I did mean it to be (let's say) fetish and dominatrix in theme. And my vocal and synth lines often mirror each other it's just a bad habit perhaps. The break after opressor is actually a 2/4 measure making it half the time of all the other measures and it's not actually a decay of the actual bass line, it's a percussive sound which is very deep. But thanks for the comments.
