They are 2 different beasts.
The synth engine on your X50 is the HI (Triton) and the one on the M50 is the EDS, found on the M3.
The M50 gives you:
1) a 16 track sequencer with 210000 events.
2) a separated drum track (independent from the 2 arpeggiators)
3) SD card slot
4) Big Touch screen
5) Jostick
6) 4 chord buttons
7) 256 Mb of ROM against 64 on the X50
More weight than the X50
9) 2 Audio outs instead of 4 on your X50 _________________ Current gear

I like the "stringsounds" and "orchestral" very much on the X50!
Are the M50 "string" and "orchestral" sounds better, I mean more like "warm" on this synt?

I've never played the X50, I'm afraid, but I did own an O1/W, which employed the so-called "Advanced Integrated" synthesis engine, a precursor to the "Hyper Integrated" engine used in the X50. The leap in sound quality is tremendous. Also, in general, there seems to be a near consensus that the M50 (which employs exactly the same sound engine as the flagship M3) sounds much, much better than its Korg predecessors, even including the acclaimed Triton Extreme.
As for strings and orchestral sounds, I'd say they are very good, but not great. Let's say 7 or 8 out of 10. But the synth sounds are remarkably warm, rich, full, and lush, and you can generate some mind-blowing synth strings and pads.
In a word, I imagine that the sounds of the M50 will be not only better, but substantially better, than what you have on the X50. I'd recommend the upgrade. You won't be disappointed! _________________ Korg gear: Kronos 73.

well M50 and X50 are two different worlds...
first of all the keybed, in the X50 is extremly light, almost not playble for pianos whilst the M50 has one of the keybed's action for its price-range
then the sounds:
X50: HI engine from Triton with 64M ROM
M50: EDS engine equal to M3's with 256M ROM (the same ROM of M3)
X50: 1 IFX
M50: 5 IFX (as the M3)
other goodies in M50 (and not in X50):
16 tracks sequencer
drum track (plus Dual Arp)
touchscreen
imo, if you can afford the M50, go for it and not for the X50 |

Even if they are exactly the same, which I doubt they are, the M50 have millions of possible combinations of tone adjust and filters that will make those sound "sound" the same as the X50 or immensely better.
You are comparing a bycicle with a Toyota Land Cruiser (I belive the M3 would be a Mercedes and the Oasys a Formula 1 )
I don't know if you understand what I'm trying to say. _________________ Martin Ocando

I can't add much more than what has already been typed. Personally, the M50 is 100x better due to the drum tracks and added IFX. Throw in the touch screen and ridiculously simple manipulating of sounds and it's a no brainer. I had the X50 and while for its size and price, it served me well, there's just no comparison. _________________ Life is short, play a KORG!

Hi!
@robbie50
I used to have an X50 which I sold to get an M50 - I have never regretted doing this. I am well aware that judging sounds and sound quality is largely dependent on personal preferences and taste. However, I am fairly confident in saying that the M50's string and orchestra sounds are certainly as good as the X50's if not better.
I do not know why you want to sell your X50 but if you do, you'll get everythng you had and much more - as all the posters in this thread have already said. _________________ Regards, Carsten

I have both X50 & M50, & I'd be reluctant to part with either of them, 'cos they're both great keyboards,
but if I had to choose, it's a no-brainer -
the M50 wins hands-down.
Not only are the 'sounds' (miles) better, but all the extra stuff that's in-built still has me scratching my head wondering
how Korg managed to get so much into this keyboard for the price!
It's streets ahead in the value-for-money stakes with ANY of the competition from other manufacturers. _________________ Job: Professional Piano tuner/technician.

Exactly. In all seriousness, has there ever been a better value-for-money Rompler? Does anything else come close? _________________ Korg gear: Kronos 73.
