As far as I understand it, the wavedrum's sensors are piezolectric transducers that pick up the vibrations from the head and rim of the WD.

Is there anything special about the sensors?

As far as i understand the timbre of the head doesn't affect the sound much, it is the transients that are used to modulate the envelopes of the synth algorithms, and so changing the head to, say, a leather skin or a piece of rubber wouldn't produce dramatically different timbres in the way that doing that on a real drum would?

My understanding and check some of WaveDrummers posts that certian heads do impact tone some but more so the way the different sticks mallets brushes power rods etc.. sound. I love my fyberskin head.
