From earlier photos of the Kronos inside, the memory stick was a Hynix 2GB 2Rx8 PC2 6400U 666 12 with a part number of HYMP125U64CP8-S6 AB

I found a memory stick that ALMOST matches. It's a Hynix 2GB 2Rx8 PC2 6400S 666 12 and the part number is HYMP125S64CP8-S6 AB

Do any IT expert members know if the 'S', rather than 'U', makes any difference - that is are they inter-changeable?

Today, I replaced my RAM with 4GB Corsair XMS2 . The procedure was really easy - apart from removing 29 Screws on a Kronos 61 Smile

I will just repeat what I heard directly from Korg USA: if you do the RAM upgrade BEFORE the OS release in October, you will have voided your warranty. Also, Max at Korg stated that despite what people are saying on the forum, the current OS is actually NOT recognizing the RAM upgrade.

Before anyone jumps on me, I would suggest you call Korg to hear it from them.

I am hoping that OS update WILL be out in October as promised; I NEED the 2 GB upgrade and I WANT the extra soundbanks.

Ahimsa,
Vlad

Ha! You want SPEED? I just installed a Chevy 454 big block engine in my Kronos! I have to sit on top of it to even turn on the power or it goes racing around the studio like some kind of crazy wild workstation! Installation was easy but don't lose the intake manifold in the Kronos or you'll have to put up with that blow-by smell every time you play the grand piano. Also, I found that the "fuel system mod" works best with a supply line directly from a large tank outside. The motor sound IS noticeable, so be ready to build a containment box of some kind for it. I used an insulated Volkswagen microbus. I had a bunch of mineral wool panels lying around anyway. Kronos boots up in less than 0.5 seconds and has everything loaded instantly, PLUS a four speed manual transmission. Yee Haw!

Right, well in that case I'll look at transplanting the block out of my Vette and see if that does the trick Wink Yes, we do have Vettes in the UK Cool

For me, the extra ram, additional sound banks, and updated operating system are things that are very appealing. But, I will join the chorus of waiting until the update to add the ram. Smile

Ohhh, yes it does, ohhh no it doesn't.... Sorry, pantomime season is just around the corner Smile

OS 1.0.4 DOES recognise and reports the extra RAM (3.25Gb), and indeed loads my 725Mb library, as well as the Kronos' factory samples, with room to spare.

Someone at Korg is telling porkies.

All the screws are the same size, so no jam jar lids are required Smile
