Can you set the controls on the control surface to send sys ex data? Or can you only send CC messages?

I ask because on the Motif XS (actual keyboard) you can use the sliders to control individual element level volume (while in voice mode) (elements are the little pieces of wave rom that make up the voices) (VOICES = PROGRAMS)

On the XS board you can control the volume of the elements within the voice right from the sliders.

Well you can do this from another board but you have to program the sys ex messages that are sent.

This would be nice to be able to do.

But of course I've got no idea how to or if it's even possible.

Any ideas?

AFAIK you can set the sliders also to volume (both in program mode and combi mode). You also can set buttons to switch them on/off. Select Timbre/Track for this function. Then you don't need the Motif to send sysex messages at all.

What I meant was you don't have to send sysex messages to control the volume of the oscillators in a program or the timbres in a combi.

At the Control Assign on the left of the Kronos you see a button 'TIMBRE/TRACK'. When you press this you can use the MIX/PLAY MUTE buttons right of it to select sounds (1 = osc1, 2 = osc2, 3 = drums for program, and 1-8 are from timbres 1-8 in a combi). By pressing TIMBRE/TRACK again it switches to 9-16. WIth the sliders you can set the volume.

I am trying to control the OSC of the program/voices on the XS rack... not the Kronos.

I want to control this FROM the kronos as if it was the XS keyboard.

Ok sorry then I completely misunderstood your problem.
I don't think sysex messages can be connected to switches or sliders from the Kronos.
