Hi Korg'ers
Just bought a brand new PA3X today - coming from Tyros3.
To my big surprise, it is impossible to get a "bass walk" from c down to g.
If I choose Chord setting 2 in style play, the bass follow c,h,a, but when I take the chord (low)g, c, e, g the bass returns to a c ?
If I put on bass on lower the bass of course play a g, but:
Isn't it crazy to have a 4 finger chord that does nothing?
If this can be done, please inform me
If not; Korg, please add this to the chord inventions?
It is used for nothing the way it is now (unless I haven't read the manual proper..)
Looking much forward to get an answer back.
Regards
Chris H |

Chris,
Have you tried a 2 finger chord, just G+C, or G+E?
G+C would analyze as either Gsus (sounding like a C9 in context) or 3rd inversion C (no 3rd).
G+E as either Em (no 5) or C/G (no 3rd).
Either of those might work for you.
It's been a long time (i-series) since I used a Korg arranger, but I think there's a place in set up for a backing track where you can choose whether to use left hand only, right hand only, or both hands to determine how the board "sees" what you're playing. I think the secret of chord inversions is buried in there somewhere... like right hand (analyzes as) a C and the left hand (not counted) can play any other note (G!).

Hi Chris
One of my favourite classics - play it a lot.
I use Bass inversion and and use 2, 3 and 4 fingered chords and it works perfectly. I use "Fingered 1" setting all the time.
Don't think you will get it to work without BI successfully.

Hi billbaker
Correct with the Gsus when trying g,c.
Come on Korg - no ability to play a C with a g bass without pushing a button?
karmathanever
Yeah it's s cool tune, and I can play it at my old Tyros3 without having to press that bassOnLower button.
I have tried that, but I can't get used to using it
Thank you both for your answers.. |

Hi Chris
Interesting how we all find these keyboards to be different - I hated the inconvenience of bass inversion on my Tyros.
On the PA you can toggle the bass inversion with a pedal if preferred.
Cheers

If you set Chord Recognition Mode as "expert" and play G-C-E-G chord you obtain C/G, same of GCE with Bass Inversion switch.

Hi All
Came across this whilst searching the web on bass walks or chromatic bass runs.
I have seen a very old post on a PSR forum where someone stated that on the Korg I series and on certain styles, you could get the arranger to walk the bass. The guy explained it like holding a C major chord and adding in F then the arranger walks the bass to F and then you change chord to F.
Kindly advise if this is possible as im not at my keyboard to try same at the moment but is a big necessity to have bass walk or chromatic walk/run without the additional button press etc.
Any guidance will be appreciated |
