Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Received my Kronos "Display model" yesterday, and it has a mark as shown on the ribbon. and below

I've rang them up today, and i was "told" that the ribbon controller has a peice of plastic in the middle as a guide to the central spot.

So then, I was told to email the photos, and am uyet to recieve a reply. its less than 24 hours old, and its quite "Sharp" on the finger when sliding up and down. I was told that the display model (after my purchase) would contain some "cosmetic issues", but this is unaccepatable to me, but cant seem to convince the shop. It seems they want me to keep it (I part exchanged my oasys for this)

I want a new brand new model now from them now, but they may want lots more Cash off me if. I'll call them back in a bit and see what they say, but it seems i've been shoved off with a B-Grade, rather than a display model (My OASYS was a display model but was in perfect condition - 5 years ago, and to be honest, it is in better condition than the Kronos i have ATM

(note, the is not a Kronos complaint as you may gather) Wink

That's a tough call. I am assuming you got a whale of a deal and it is a pre Kronos X. That said, I would reiterate the case that they need to supply a new ribbon controller because it is under factory warranty. Wait a couple of weeks, then buy one yourself and and have a local service center put it in for you or just do it yourself. I would fill in that gash with some epoxy or something of that nature. I am assuming you got a "heavenly" deal, but if you paid very close to retail, I'd take it back. The best. Smile Smile

Hi denny,

its Seriel 000021, so looks like its quite a older model??. I prefer to have a new one now, as this will niggle me everytime i reach for the ribbon controler, and it doesn't look pretty either.

I''l call them back in a minute as not had a reply (phone)

Tony

To be honest, the ribbon controller is the one controller that I hardly ever use. Might be a good excuse to get a killer deal for a "second hand" keyboard still being under warranty.

On the other hand, there is a chance that the piano has outlived other abuse that you haven't seen (yet), so I would be really careful and double check every controller, connection, etc...

Theyv'e just rang me back and told me they will collect it on Tuesday (its bank holiday on Monday). They will have a look at the panel, and possibly contact korg (or send it to them)?, to have it repaired, and as you said denny, its still under warrentee. Well, the Keybed feels loverly anyway;)

Just had a go on the presets. The guitar sounds seem to go out of tune (like a semitone) then when i press the next preset guitar sound, it goes "back" in tune, but aftera few plays on a another guitar preset - that also goes out of tune and sounds quite terrable TBH. Confused

would the bad ribbon controller be responsible for this?

I seldom use the ribbon controller, but instead use one pedal set to the same CC.

If your going for a display model and getting a great discount, I still think that anything that effects it's playability is not acceptable.

A mark on the case is grand, but on the ribbon, no way.

Regards
Sharp.

In my opinion, almost certainly... the ribbon controller is pressure sensitive, and anything (not just your finger) pressing on it will activate whatever CC is assigned to it.

So if a guitar patch has (for example) pitch bend assigned to the ribbon, the pressure where that dent is will definitely cause the pitch drop you mention.

Not what you want to hear... sorry. Sad

Thanks for replies

As for the "pressing on the ribbon" , well i don't touch the ribbon at all, they go out of tune at random, (piano etc seem ok though) Not chufffed about this i'm afrtaid.

cheers

This is not a minor blemish, but a damaged control surface.

Yes I'd take the thing if the price was deeply discounted.

If they will honor the warrenty, get them to fix it.

If they will not, I hope the discount is greater than the repair cost.

$2700 - $200 Parts - $200 repair - $500 for your trouble.

You need to also verify no keybed issues, make sure rotary knob is tight, fan isn't too loud,

and have them update to OS 2.0.2, install extra RAM & 2nd SSD (add $70 ram, $130 for 120G SSD)

Good Luck

and last but not least, if it's a small shop (mom & pop) give them 10% back. (we need them, don't let the large warehouses and junky dealer run the world)

$2200 Upgraded and expanded.
$1800 as is.

Agreed. Besides the feel, is there any break in continuity you can detect using it?

old serials? That's very broad. Mine is # 000168 and I have no issues whatsoever.

Well, I just turned it on (for the last time), and the Joystick has a fault too. when i bend it up or down, it doesn't centralize, but have to change program and back again to normalize the sound.

Worse still, the front of the keyboard Below the headphone socket) also acts as a "ribbon"!, in fact anywhere on that panel that is touched throws everything out. I think something has been dislodged...something broken...

As for the seriel (yes its old), i wouldn't mind if it was 000001 if it worked correctly
