Hi Guys,

I thought I would do a backup of my Kronos via FTP.

So I ftped the FACTORY folder across thinking it would contain all data, it doesn't though, there is only 190MB or so.

Where are all the samples stored? Is there no way of doing a backup via FTP of the factory setup?

Thanks

Andy

Thanks Sharp.

So the only backup is the install disks, now where did I put them?

Yep, all the pieces you need for a restore are your Restore CD's, your OS Updates, copies of the EXs installation files, and your personal files.

The only data you can backup over FTP are personal files.

Regards
Sharp.

Of course, if you really want to backup your data, you can always clone your drive if you have another SSD of similar size.

However, considering the faff it is to clone the drive, it's much easier to save your personal data only and reinstall the factory data using DVD1.

What you could do is save all Korg and Karo install packs on DVD (it'll take 3 DVDs altogether) so you can reinstall a collection quickly instead of having to download the pack from the net and copy it onto a USB key.

The only thing that would make reinstalling factory data a bit easier is to have a recovery DVD containing OS 2.0.2. I hope Korg will release such an ISO so we can burn a 2.0.2 recovery DVD.

so if all this factory data is on the DVDs that came with the Kronos, can we delete that folder and use the precious hard drive space? and if we need it just reload it from the disc?

Delete what folder exactly ?

Be careful to not delete stuff without making sure first that it needs to be uninstalled and not deleted.

Careful, if you delete the factory folder, the only way you get it back is by reinstalling from the backup DVD.

It's not like you can insert the DVD and grab the sound you need from the DVD. The factory data has to be on the SSD.

If you don't install any expansion pack from Korg or KARO, then the factory 30 Gb SSD gives you more than enough space. From memory, I'd say there's about 14 Gb left on the drive.

Of course, if you start adding expansions, and specially EXs11 and EXs12, then the 30 Gb will soon be full. That's why putting a 120 Gb drive is the recommended addition if you want to make sure you won't be running out of hard drive space, even if you use the User Sample Banks and expansions extensively.

I have the expansions... and I'm getting a little low on space (less than 1.5 gb) and I was wondering if I could delete that factory folder from the internal SSD... the more I think about it though, I think that is probably where the samples that stream from the German Grand and the Japanese Grand... other than that though.... is there a reason to keep that folder on the SSD?
