Hi all, I have never owned a Korg workstation, just an R3. Please forgive me if this is a silly question.

If I program a song into the onboard sequencer, what parameters can be recorded and replayed? As a minimum, I'd need fader/level automation of each track, and ideally other controls such as instrument filter cutoff, resonance, LFO values, and panning. Is this possible in an onboard sequencer?

Basic controls such as filter cutoff, resonance, attack, decay, mixer level and pan, possibly send levels, can be automated because they are assigned to knobs in their preset mode.

Beyond that, a program would have modulation routings programmed into it for things like joystick up, joystick down, pitch bend (joystick X axis), the four knobs in assignable mode, the two assignable switches, perhaps damper pedal or etc.

Basically your modulation options come mainly from the realtime controllers. You can also insert any kind of standard MIDI message into the sequencer in event edit mode, but that can be tedious.
