Hi Folks. Been a while since I posted but I've been lurking here and there...Smile

I've given myself an assignment to delve into programming but I wanted to have goal sounds before I started.

So here's some of the stuff I'm trying to accomplish.

The first is to create a program with similar if not identical parameters to these acoustic instrument displays. The first one I saw a year or two ago and have really wanted to try it out whether with the WD or the way the YT player does it. It's a Pearl Tombourine (half tom/half tambourine) miked up hot and put through some kind of processing (comp, reverb, etc)

http://youtu.be/98uipNNU_ww

The second is one I just found with the player using a kanjira although the title says tambourine

Lastly is the great Steve Amedee playing with the SubDudes (audio). Steve is JUST playing tambourine

The bottom line with these acoustic 'treatments' is that you have a tambourine or tambourine-like instrument, tuned kind of low, miked up with a good deal of gain and then some kind of processing.

I want to simulate that on the Oriental WD and feel I should be able to do it. So I'm fooling around with programming. Last night I was messing with the Req program and didn't get what I wanted. Keep in mind that this is my first foray into programming but I'm willing to do the work if it's going to give me some useable custom programs other than what come with the WD.

If anyone has tried to simulate the above or has some insight please let me know. If not, I'll machete my way through the OWD digital jungle and let you know how it goes. Smile

Jim

P.S. - I also have plans to make a bit more useable brush program than comes standard, possibly with some interesting additions of expression but I'll put that in a separate thread.

just a first idea
Tombourine :
http://www.thomann.de/de/prod_pdfreview_13220-mm31089_st200501053.pdf
for 50 bucks worth buying (thankz), can it be played on the lap/table ???

start with a plain head algorithm and add samples and Rim sounds later
(if necessary at all). vol 1=100 ; vol 2-4 =0
Alg 10 (first choice) or 12 , both with a short decay time

Kanjira / Tambo
try ALG 17 Talking drum with a short decay as a starting point ?
thats pretty close ...

sound No3 is blocked in Germany Sad

I hope you post your (intermediate) results

@others : any more ideas Wink

Thanks, WaterDrum
I would like to get the Tombourine and may at one point.
I wanted to try the Wavedrum solution first because of several reasons.

The first being that it seems to be a palette of sounds that should be doable by the WD. But I’m more feeling that than calculating what the WD is really possible of doing

The second is that although the Pearl Tombourine YouTube treatment is ultra-cool, it does require bringing a mic and some processing gear before hitting the mixer and/or amp. Again doable but…. If there is a Wavedrum solution, it just plugs in to the mixer as usual

The third is that it seems a worthy goal to get my programming going. I’ve had this WD for way too long without trying to do anything.
So all the above is the reasoning

You mentioned that ‘sound 3’ is not available in Germany. Is that Program 3 (Velo Ambi Snare)? Head PCM3/ Algo 3? Etc Just interested and wonder why that would be.

Also I assume that ‘Kanjira\Tambo’ is the name of the desired comb ( i.e. a Program name of sorts) but not the name of actual PCM/Algorithms. You also mention starting with TalkDrum/Alg 17 which seems like a good place although I thought the Req might be also. However, after playing with some tuning it may not be the best choice
Thanks for your input and I’d also welcome any other possible comments from others.
BTW: This will probably take a few weeks to get together but I’ll try to share whatever my results are.

Jim

hi shedboyxx
buying means I wanna buy myself , thankz again ,
looks like a good instrument for my next lonely island trip
(no electricity beach jams) Laughing

with sound No3 I mean
video link No3 is blocked because of Copyright infringement
maybe they can block a vid on youtube , but not a sound in my WD Laughing

here I refer to the second link

most of the time when editing sounds on the WD you will not exactly get what you want ,

so with WD sounds maybe its a bit like :
"If you cant be with the one you love , love the one you´re with"

""If you cant be with the one you love , love the one you´re with"

Right! ...good WD advice..(I actually play this song with an artist I work with)

I know that is the case with some of the WD versions of drums like congas. No way to simulate the hand rocking deadline that is a primary part of conga technique. This may be one of those cases but - maybe not??

I figure I can at least try and see what happens. Smile

I appreciate active editing people a lot ...

here is a link to Midisarons Parameter sheet = Offline editor , sorry no MIDI
(korg doesnt want too much easy editing ,they wanna sell their "new sounds" again & again ... Sad Sad )
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=74144&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15&sid=518d6c3a69b0e62ea8647a99f83018f3

his post from Oct , 13
has 2 download links

This Open Office document (NOT Excel ! )
Arrow will show you all parameters of every preset sound
also printout is possible
So you can get your feet onto the ground ,when you start editing .
Its really worth to install Open Office , very helpful Wink
