Recently , months ago Midisaron published his development of a Trigger2MIDI interface for the Wavedrum.
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=81961&sid=942365a3b27b8c2d9317fb338bf8b5aa
Imo the Wavedrum is definitely Not "perfect as is"
Theres much more than korg and the the manual want to tell us
Maybe a certain creativity starts where the manual ends ?
My MIDI tests and my possibilities are by far not so elaborated as Midisarons Custom tailored system.
I do not want to go too much offtopic in his thread.
Therefore I open up this one to give some more info about WD-MIDI
and my personal way of triggering MIDI samples .
I wanna call it EZy MIDI
I am using WD2MIDI since quite a while , simply by using my trigger (in=)outputs
(Beware, a rocket science hack ), NOT
I am very happy with the results .
When I started experimenting I used a Roland SPD-S as a soundsource , because I wanted to "use my own samples" .
Somehow disappointed with the 2 layer samples and no X-blending I switched over to my Handsonc HPD-15.(+manual )
The Handsonic has 2 Trigger inputs and is much easier to setup as a Trigger2MIDI interface and as a sound source than the SPD-S .
Selecting samples as well as adjusting the tuning , decay and all is a piece of cake .
I am still finetuning my special "Basic WD-Controller patch" .
(patch sysex on personal request available)
(ROLAND CAN ;korg DOESNT WANT )
At the moment this patch holds 2 samples on the Trigger inputs only ,
and is using all kinds of controller pads like the D-Beam , the ribbon controllers and normal pads
to influence the 2 samples with movement and pressure .
Still there is more than enough space for extra sounds on many pads (esp. A1 and A5)
results : No1 and still more promising
extra crash on the WD-rim ---no prob
some tambura droning , easy
extra shakers --- wait a second
octave up bending (D Beam)--- sounds coool
bending up/down --- seamlessly
Filter cutoff -- very "synthesizy"
influence on LFO functions to get weired sounds --- 1 finger action
more parameters ? still (again)exploring the manual
Of course I know , that I am not the only one happy owner of a Handsonic in this forum , so maybe this is useful info .
Honestly I was never really that happy with the Handsonics rubber pads .
As we all know , the WD is WAY MORE natural to play , it is really much closer to a real percussion instrument.
Somebody out there who knows that "MIDI is not audio" ? _________________ ---------- Wavedrum ----------

EZy MIDI does not only trigger Handsonic sounds from the WD
WD Trigger out ----> Handsonic trigger In 1/2
These Handsonic sounds are panned to the left channel , left Out .
Now
Triggering is also possible the other way round...
The Handsonic at the same time triggers the WD rim sound.
Pad A1 , panned to middle or to the right Output
is the "external triggering instrument"
and lets the WD Rim Algorithm work "as if programmed to the WD head"
Handsonic right Output ---> WD Rim Trigger In
The original A1 (A5) pad sound can be heard at the normal WD Line Out ,
it is still avaiable , it does not get lost , if panned to the Handsonc right Output .
seems complicated and confusing ? feel free to ask |

In the Trigger thread some time ago I was asking for a sample box with
SD Card , Midi Out and two trigger inputs (by Korg of course ).
It seems Roland will introduce exactly this little bugger at NAMM 2014
http://www.rolandus.com/products/details/1308/487/features/
this could be an easy way to add new samples to the WD and to go MIDI .
(hopefully at a fair price , the technology and parts wouldn´t be that expensive...)
btw : this thread is not planned as a "Roland thread" in a Korg forum
but its more about "E-Percussion"and MIDI in general
and in connection with a (un)modified Wavedrum .
added : at a price of 199 $/Euro its way too expensive
I hoped it would be about 80 bucks ... |
