I've had my Wavedrum since about February 2013. Today I had it plugged in and the volume would occasionally drop. Maybe by about 50%. Then, after a while, it would pop back up again. Has anyone experienced this? Could it be a loose connection somewhere? |

Hi RK
as you are not one of these guys "to whom it may concern"
you get a fast answer
probably its a loose/half broken connection at the jack
or a bad connection at the cable between mainboard and in/output module
or a bad/broken solderpoint somewhere else
questions :
1.active warranty ?
2.did you try a different headfone /line out cable already ?
3.problem with headfone output or 1 or both lineouts ?
4.volume coming back with or without hitting the WD ? _________________ ---------- Wavedrum ----------

Thanks for your reply WaterDrum. To answer your questions:
1. Not sure of warranty is active. I purchased it on eBay via an eBay store. It was still in the box and new when I purchased it, but not sure how warrantees work when something it technically sold "used" on eBay.
2. I tried playing it with the headphone out last night and it seemed fine. I have not tried the other stereo out as I don't keep the amp I use at home. I'll try another cable and test both stereo outs today.
3. No problem with headphone output, will test stereo outs again today with a different cable.
4. Both. Sometimes it would come and go while I was playing. Other times I would let it sit a bit and when I played it next, the volume would be back to normal. |

1.the warranty was probably not sold (USA ?)
-you might ask the seller to help you and send it to Korg for you...
3.slightly move /rattle at the plugs when connected
4.try it with weak rim hits , not on the head
again a cable with 90 degrees angled jacks is recommended ...
especially for headfones when WD is played on the lap
(=a cable adapter)
NOT recommended is the 1/8" to 1/4"Stereo version of this one .:

Not sure about the warranty. I'll have to look into that. Yes, I'm in the US and the seller has an eBay store. i.e. They have a business selling stuff, it's not just an individual selling used items. But I'm not sure how warranties work in regard to eBay.
Anyway, I think it may have been the cable. I used it today, with a new cable, for about 2 hours without problem. I used both line outs and everything seems fine. So...we'll see. if I encounter something again I may be back.
If I did have to have something fixed, I'm in the NYC area. I think I could probably find someone to do it. Not sure of Korg has "licensed/approved" specialists to deal with these kinds of issues on their products.
Thanks for your responses WaterDrum. |

I had a feeling it was the cables. It usually is the first place I check.
Although when you say you used both outputs I wonder what you mean. Don't you always use both outputs? |

@martygras
I usually just use one. I use it at a small dance studio in combination with other instruments. There isn't much time for set-up and take down, so even cutting back on one cable saves time...and the amount of gear I have to keep track of in the schlepp.
I've mostly been an "analog" guy, so still getting used to troubleshooting instruments with multiple parts (cables, amps, etc).
Thanks all! |

yes the cables and plugs are certainly the very first things to check out
for all newbies here is a link to basic troubleshooting :
http://whirlwindusa.com/support/tech-articles/basics-troubleshooting-sound-systems/
+ google
@martygras
97 percent of the presets are panned to the middle
so also for me 1 cable (1 channel) is enough
(The "Stereo effect" comes with Mono In --->Stereo Out FX pedals)
when I edit a sound I do not separate my sound elements by panning
so this might only work for me (or for preset sounds) |
