Can you run mp3 or wave files from a usb stick?

Post by bsbdeni »

Im trying to run mp3 or wave files from a usb stick in my Kronos. I also want to split the left & right to different outputs so I can send a click track to my drummer. IS this possible? How?

Sounds like backing tracks. I do this at Church. You have to use .wav files, not MP3.

I load the .wav into sample memory and convert it to a program. Then save sampling data in disk mode. Then, I use Global auto-load to make the new samples available whenever I turn the Kronos on. You also want to set the program you create to HOLD so it plays until it reaches the end of the audio file.

In my case I use a combi so I can play along with the track. I use slot 16 in a combi for the track. There, I can set the volume and output ports. I use outputs 3/4. I also set the zone limiting it to the lowest key. I press the key once to start the track.

You could keep all this on the USB stick if you want. When saving sampling data just point it to the USB memory. In my case I save everything internally. That way it's always there. I do change the auto-load in Global every week depending on what tracks or special sounds are needed.

Hello! Newbie question here. Just want to ask how were you able to have that continuous playing MS converted to Program file? I already tried sampling via USB with WAV files and converted these to a program but they are not playing continuously without holding to a key or pressing the damper pedal. I just want to create a backing track and put it in a COMBI just like what you did.

Looking forward to your response. Thank you.

Unless you want to play it from the USB stick, wouldn't be easier just to put the WAV in a sequence audio track? You can copy your Combi set up to the seq and your good to go. If you know the tempo of the backing track, you can match it with the seq. I have a two song medley that I do. On the last downbeat of the first tune I turn on KARMA for the next tune. Works great!

In the program, go to the second tab dealing with oscillators and tick the HOLD box. The track or any audio will play to its end.

you can assign what goes to what output in the IFX bus on each sound. by default things go to L/R but you can assign these to the other outputs. I have set a few combos up with a left hand bass I sent this out a different output and di to the desk and the sound guy then has direct separate control over the volume eq etc on FOH

Great info and just what i was looking for. I just recently got the new 2015 Korg kronos 88 model.

There might be a lot of questions about this in the forums.

I was planning to play backing track in some form from kronos ( some minutes long wav file ) and play on top of it. Does kronos let me to switch either programs or combis while still playing the wav file continuously.
Is it possible?

In a word, no. A backing track in a program/Combination is just an oscillator running within a program. If you change that program or combi to another, that oscillator will play for the SST time limit and then quit. If you change to even another program/combi before the SST times out, it will quit immediately.

However, you can use the Sequencer which has 16 MIDI tracks and 16 Audio tracks. Put your backing track into an audio track(s) and setup your different programs in the different MIDI tracks. You can group or layer sounds by assigning them to the same MIDI channels.

In Set List mode, you could set multiple slots to the same Sequence running the backing track, but have each Set List slot point to a different MIDI track(s) in that sequence.

I've run backing track both ways. The advantage of program version is the track is automatically loaded when the Kronos powered on. An advantage of the Sequence version is you can add to the track using some MIDI tracks making it better!
