|
|
Hi there
This may be sort-of off topic but I notice that some of you have Kronos and V-synth.
Well, GAS strikes me again and I've got the opportunity to get a V-Synth but can't decide!!
It's the first one (not GT) with 128MB card etc
Been reviewing it but would love any thoughts on this "pair" of synths.
thanks

I have an XT here, it is an amazing synth.
I'd get it if I was you. |

It's a far better VA engine than the recent SuperNatural Synth series. You can't really go wrong with it. _________________ Synth DIY Projects |

I don't own one but would love one. My friend has one. It's something of a modern classic I feel. Perhaps the last truly great synth Roland developed. |

I've had a vsynth-xt for many years, it's a fantastic synth with it's own character. I'm still thinking of adding a vsynth GT to my setup.
It's a great addon to the kronos because it sound really different. |

What does the V-Synth give you which cannot be obtained from the Kronos?
is it redundant? _________________ Pa5x, Yamaha Genos, ForeScore |

Quite a few things when you get down to the details but a main one would be real-time sample mangling/stretching/pitching/granular synthesis. |

I would like a V-Synth as well. Quite a few years back on a business trip to Australia, I had a stop over in Adelaide. Lovely city, with a great music store.
On a rainy Saturday (yes, it rains in Aus as well as Wales ) I had time to kill, and this shop was great.
They first of all explained to a guitar newbie why a cheap sprung capo was pushing my guitar out of tune (too much pressure!) and they let me try a V-Synth even though I said there was no way I could purchase and ship it to UK!
I was very impressed, and this is probably the only Roland on my GAS list (OK a JP8, but I have that in soft synth form) _________________ Derek Cook - Java Developer

I have an XT midied up to my Kronos and use the Vocal processor for backing vocals and it works a treat. When space allows I also use the GT for leads and fx. In conclusion, thoroughly recommend the V synth range as it's very unique. _________________ Korg Kronos 2 88, Roland: JP80, Integra 7, V synth GT, V synth XT, MKS70, JD990 x2, A90 x3, JD800, D70, AX7 x2, A110, A880. I have the original V-Synth and prefer it to the GT/XT (though I love the display on those two). The original just had some sounds that I really love and they're not available on the GT/XT. When Roland released version 2.0 OS for the original, enough people, like me, complained and they provided a version of OS 2.0 with the original sounds and patches. I never understood why they changed the sounds so radically going from OS 1 to 2 (the GT/XT can only use the version 2.0 sounds).
Anyway, I don't know if the one you're looking at is running OS 1 or 2, but you can find info on the updates below.
I tend not to keep many old digital synths but the V-Synth and Yamaha VL-1 are two that I will keep for a very long time as they have certain unique sounds I've never been able to replicate.

This is really encouraging me however I have a question.....
I have just discovered that this V-Synth is 110V and I am in a 240V country.
It comes with the step-down transformer - my question:-
Do these "transformers" cause any sound interference - I used one a very long time ago and it was not good in that regard.
Oh!! and do you think US$1,100 is an ok price?
(Thanks again for the feedback)

You'll be fine using a step-down transformer with regards to noise etc - just make sure it's a decent one that's properly earthed.
No idea about pricing - unfortunately these things come up for sale so rarely here their price always seems to be inflated. In any case, you've got me looking at getting one to go with my Kronos now too! _________________ Current Equipment:
