I just bought a Korg Pa900 and was wondering if there is a style editor software available as a freeware. I tried the EMC freeware for Korg keyboard but could not get it to work.
Can someone help please?? |

Are you trying to use an Editor to do bank management for your keyboard styles, or you're looking for something to edit the content of a style? _________________ Sam

You can do that with a MIDI editor as long as it handles markers. Export a factory style to midi and open it up in a midi editor to see the structure. It's pretty straight forward. I've taken Yamaha .STY style files, changed the file suffix to .MID, opened in Sonar, made the necessary changes and the imported it in the Korg PA. Last one I did took all of 5 minutes. _________________ ”It’s easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself.”

Yeah, you need a DAW/Midi Editor then. I've personally never used a freeware to do any kind of editing, so no idea as to what options are available as free softwares. _________________ Sam

Thank you very much for your answers. I will try the MIDI editor as suggested by Thoraldus. Sounds easy to do. I have Sonar myself.
I am not familiar with DAW, Assyrianpianist. |

Sonar 8 Producer Edition, pretty old, but does everything I need it to do.
By the way, DAW = Digital Audio Workstation = Sonar
I use the PA3X INS file for instrument definitions. Works fine. _________________ ”It’s easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself.”

Hi THoraldus:
I have a real stupid question for you. I have never worked with an INS file. How do you import it into the Software? |

On my version is it ...
OPTIONS > INSTRUMENTS > DEFINE > IMPORT
Then return to the Assign Instruments page and make sure your channels are pointing to the appropriate PA3X instruments.
By the way, there are no 'stupid questions', only 'stupid answers'. _________________ ”It’s easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself.”

I use Cubase 7 Elements to edit styles. The manual says that you need a MIDI editor which it allows you to save midi files type 0 (all tracks in one track). It's neccessary to insert marks in order to set ranges in the midi files. Thats ranges match with the parts of a style (intro1, intro2, var1, var2...). It's very funny to build your own style and use it after |
