How to create this Muse "uprising" sound?

Post by pkarr »

Hi everybody, I'm in a cover band and we will play "Uprising" by Muse. Could you help me to create this synth lead sound on my kronos please? or maybe someone has a patch? I'm a newbie in sound programming. Thank you so much for your help.

My band plays this (or used to) and I have it already programmed. Which sound are you looking for, the intro, or the minimoog sounding lead in the 2nd chorus? I'll have to double check, but I think I am doing that on my V-Synth, but it's simple enough to recreate on the Kronos.
::: Korg Kronos 88 ::: Alesis Fusion 8HD ::: Kurzweil PC361 ::: Roland V-Synth ::: DSI Prophet 12 ::: DSI OB-6 ::: Korg Prophecy ::: Moog Micromoog ::: Yamaha CP-30 ::: Alesis Andromeda ::: Moog Sub37 ::: Sequential Prophet 600 ::: Korg MS2000BR ::: GSI Burn :::

Thx for your help.. I need the main lead sound, the one who is played in the intro and in the verses. For the arpeggio, i found a preset in the kronos and i play it.

We do this song too. In fact, we click track it and I created a sequence with the entire bass line and the drum hits/claps. Here's my recipe:

Lead - a combination of three analog-ish sounds:
1. Analog strings (I-C036), volume at 98.
2. Pulse Morph Lead (I-E067), volume at 45.
3. Crossover Lead (EE-058), volume at 108. Can't remember where I got this sound, but obviously downloaded from one of the popular add-ons. I forced the OSC to legato with a portamento time of 43 on both oscillators.

EDIT: Crossover Lead is from the HD-1 XPansion Sounds Vol 2.

The lead has clearly some portamento but not on all the timbres. Took a lot of trial and error. I don't know what Muse used on this but made some assumptions since a lot of their synth sounds are derivative of old-school analog gear.

I also used a distorted bass sound from the HD-1 XPansion Sounds Vol 2 for the bass and run it through a OD/Hyper Gain Wah, Stereo Compressor and Exciter/Enhancer IFX to get a mix of the bass with the fuzz sound. Set at 70:30 wet/dry. Tweaked other settings in the OD/Hyper Gain Wa to get that crunch.

Here's a quick n dirty sample of what I came up with:
