So, I was tired of the somewhat ugly black-on-green display of my Korg M1 and decided to replace it with the ultra-cool white on blue display (seems to actually match the M1 case better!)

So here's me being a show-off and posting my cool new display:

The picture really doesn't do it justice. Maybe I'll figure out how to get my camera to get a better picture of it and post a better pic.

Wow - looks good - cool mod Cool
What display have you ordered (and from where) ? Would be nice to know - my M1 still is waiting for a mod like this Very Happy

I've done that kind of 'Cool Blue' mod to my SY99 nearly two years ago:

I ordered it from a place called crystalfontz for 25 bucks. They were very helpful when i ran into a problem with wiring.

If enough people show interest in doing this, i can post some instructions. It wasn't a straightforward replacement. Hardware install was a snap as it fit nicely into the original location, but the wiring required some customization...

Well here's the short of it:

The new LED backlight connection is right next to the display interface soldered connection. I spliced into the cable on the KLM-1269 5VDC connector (CN9) and feed the wires to the LED backlight solder points (A & K). The existing connector on the original LCD lined up perfectly after that to power the chip and update digit display.

The big issue, however is the potentiometer for the contrast adjustment: It was using a 6-10VDC signal and the new LED LCD requires 3-5VDC. I therefore removed the resistors at the potentiometer(R11,12,13) to open the 6-10VDC circuit and soldered 5VDC +/- feed wires to each leg of the pot.

After that, my super-cool blue display worked like a champ!

crimson,

Nice job! You were able to get better pictures than I!

Did you end up going with the crystalfontz display?

No, got mine from BuyDisplay - it's an EastRising ERM4002-1 Series display. I will write some install notes and after converting to PDF I'll make them public here... as soon as I find some time... Wink
