Yes but most synths that I've ever seen have a device ID that you can change, so that you can distinguish multiple identical synths in your environment.
That may be less of an issue these days if one uses a multi-port MIDI interface so there's never more than one device on a midi cable.

I know a request is different from a response but I would have been astonished if the request itself didn't get sent out and it turns out that it does. Why would you expect the request to be the same as the response? I don't see why that must be. An editor will want to be able to get the state of ...

I went back and took a closer look at the sysex that I was capturing and sure enough, the very first sysex message is identical to these examples below. So I took another look at my hardware environment. Turns out I was monitoring the wrong place and even though the messages were being sent out of ...

I have built a replacment for Apple MainStage using Max/MSP to control my rigs. When I switch to a new song, sending a program change isn't sufficient if the Kronos was switched into another mode manually and/or it is in editing mode. So I am hoping to be able to simulate pushing the Exit button ...

Do you know this to be the case or is this just speculation? I don't agree with your arguments for why it must be as you describe. First of all, the only reason to confirm that "I'm in combi mode" is if a request is sent and in such a case I can't imagine why it would be necessary to send a huge ...

Kronos and receiving sysex
I'm trying to figure out how to switch from SetList to Combi to Program (etc) using sysex. I'm using MaxMSP and I captured the sysex that was generated by the Kronos when I pushed the Combi button. I then switched the Kronos back to SetList mode and tried to send the previously captured sysex back ...

I don't want Ricky Lawsons drums, or any drums.... And it's the 'more to come' that's of concern. WHEN? After March when my credits expire? Funny: a short while ago, they had more Kronos sound libraries as announcemants on their website: - a Boesendorfer Grand - a strings library - a jazz drums ex ...

Also, the problem is with sooner or later.....apparently 'later' runs out in March!

Any more sound libraries?
I caved in and bought a Kronos a few months ago...was partly persuaded by the offer of free sound libraries due to my Oasys. I have $750 in credits but there is barely anything to buy. Even if I bought everything available (and I have no interest in the drum stuff) I would have a lot of credit left ...

Perhaps Dan has been on vacation or my email went into his spam folder (sigh). You need the MIDI exclusive documentation for the Oasys. Since it is not public, you can use another one and try to reverse engineer it yourself. Otherwise you will need to sign an NDA for it and Dan is the right person ...
