You should be able to install the Synchrosoft drivers on a computer connected to the net, plug in your dongle there and authorise it from there. You can then take the dongle back to your music computer without having to sully it with internet!

To me this sounds like a problem with the host rather than Korg or Synchrosoft. In Tracktion and Cubase SE3 if I load up a song without the dongle connected I'm pretty sure neither will crash (Tracktion definitely doesn't because I have just checked it). Make sure that the wire you have disconnected is connected to ground otherwise the wire will float electrically and could produce output.
