Hi!
I'm newbie here, this is my first post.
I read about KORG Oasys about 2 weeks ago and right after that I started to digg for more info.
Generally, I am a huge fan of Music Workstations and I am wondering if I could start a small studio having "just" a KORG Oasys? I would produce music for radio commercials and contemporary Christian songs.

it depends on your needs.
How many external signals do you want to record (voices, guitars, etc.)? How many tracks do you need at the same time?
OASYS has Mic/Line inputs incl. 48V phantom plus an internal hd recorder together with the sequencer. The latter is of course not comparable to logic, cubase, dp e.a. but usable as several people here in the forum have proven. I just want to mention Mike and RC as examples, as you can find several examples of their very good work somewhere here in the forum.
When you say that you like workstations, then I guess that this means you like the availability of lots of good sounds... you checked the specs, did you? And yahh, there is also some RAM left for your own samples!
Last but not least there is one thing that is for me (!) most important... and that is the general sound quality, and OASYS is to me here on the top end range!

Well - I would say it's sufficient for a Semi-Pro studio - but right now it's as close as you can get to a studio with just one Workstation. 
If you have any doubts listen to some Demo songs @ korg.com and/or get Adreas Gundlachs Demo CD which was produced solely with one Oasys. Have a look at Mike Conways HP and listen to his soundtracks, browse the forum for more Demos - I assure you, you'll soon be convinced.

The K.O. would let me know to record directly on it?...

You have 4 inputs on the Oasys allowing for recording 4 external things at the same time - if you wish so. Quite often you will record one after the other. Audio-recording is easy on the Oasys. And it works very well together with its 16 Midi-tracks.

Just as curiosity... how sounds the human voice, recorded on K.O.? Do I have possibilities to make corrections, to add effects and so on?...Charlie wrote:You're welcome!

What if I'll want to change a word or a verse... I'll have the possibility to cut out certain parts?
Well - the voice sounds as the original one - I often had to accept that! 
Ok - seriously: the quality of your digital audiorecording will depend on the quality of your original source, used microphones or other hardware in between the Oasys and the source. You can add up to 12 effects + 2 master effects + 2 total effects. And I know you can do audio editing as well. But I admit I do only very basic stuff here and I've heard some people complaining it's not so handy on the Oasys compared to a PC with a big screen. But on the other hand it's very nice having everything on one platform.
In short: if you or your singer have a nice voice it will sound nice on the Oasys too, and you will have no problems editing it in a way its good enough for a final mixdown.

The SM58 is not something I would consider
The SM58 is a reliable Mic that you can hop off a brick wall, and still expect it to work as good as the day you opened the box. But compared to proper Studio Mic's that require 48V (powered by the OASYS) it just does not compaire.
Proper Studio Mics are in a different class altogether.

i would definietly say 'YES'!! besides the fact that i appsolutly luv it the fact that Michael Cretu from Enigma sold all his gear and just bought an Oasys and a V-synth and made his whole new CD from it is proof enough!
I really like his newest cd u should check it out, ya?

it the fact that Michael Cretu from Enigma sold all his gear and just bought an Oasys and a V-synth and made his whole new CD from it is proof enough! I really like his newest cd u should check it out, ya?

@Zoltan: you can plug your microphones directly into the Oasys. If they need Phantom power the Oasys offers this as well (like Sharp mentioned above). If you wish to use any other hardware befor plugging into the Oasys you can do that too. You just have to have the proper cables and choose the right inputs (Mic or Line) and switch its power on/off - well, and you will have to tell the Oasys which inputs he shall record.
