88 or 77 key Oasys?

Post by SpiralTrance »

Which keyboard size did you guys go for? Is there much point in getting the 77 key over the 88 key? Surely the 88 weighted key is just as good for playing synths?

There is no one better than the other answer here unfortunately.

Based on serial numbers at KARMA-LAB

http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showthre ... genumber=1

....It seems as there is a clear trend in favor of the 88 Keys version.

But this is enterely related with personal likes.
Many people that learned music based on a piano or use piano sounds a lot seem to prefer the 88 keys version.
People that like more the synth and organ sounds for sure will like the response of the 76 Keys version for fast playing and better sensitivity for aftertouch.

But forget all about what people like. What's what you like the most? If used to play on a real piano you will enjoy the 88 version. If you used synths up to now, the 76Key will probable fit better your style.
Anyway...try to test both of them before buying.

Thanks for the reply and link. I will try and test both. And I suppose one good option is to buy the 76 key version and buy a seperate 88 master key controller for serious piano playing.

Yeap...best of both worlds!
..and it's much easier arrange your setup in such way with the Oasys 76 over your 88 controller. Having the 88 Oasys don't let you put any other keyboard over it in a near position due to the screen.

Hi Leo,

A bit off topic and a detail, but On Karma Lab I noticed your serial is 312 instead of 132

regards Arend

88 vs 76

Get an 88 if you can reach the far left Joy Stick and Ribbon Strip easy; size down if not.

You can always add a 61 key synth controller for the easy 'synth' type feel or waterfall keys for organ style playing = think Novation ReMote or something in that vein with velocity and aftertouch.

I got the 88 key -- first 88 key piano style keyboard. I love it a lot.

I figure: you can always plug in a synth-type controller if you want to via midi. I realllly like the 88 key feel.

Of course the flip side, albeit more expensive rout is to get the 76 key version and get an acoustic piano. Remember nothing is like a real piano.
And there was this one time at band camp......
