Oasys Midi OMNI mode possible? Also another MIDI question.

Post by doktorfuture »

Hi there!

I'm trying to find a way to have the Oasys listen to all 16 midi channels for a single program, as well as a combi. That is, if I send a note on channel 1 AND channel 2, both should play the program or combi.

Reason for this is again my continuum fingerboard, which if I play 5 finger polyphonic likes to send 5 discrete channels of MIDI information, each with separate pitch-bend. I can't have all notes go on the same channel, because I like to pitch-bend each note differently, and pitch-bend affects all notes in the channel I believe.

Any thoughts here would really help me out a bunch.

And because you want each note to listen to pitch bend separately, program mode, even if there were a way to get it to listen in "omni" would not work, because the pitch bend messages from the different midi channels would now fight each other.

What you really want for this is something akin to the old "guitar synth" mode that some synthesizers used to support. You can make this work in OASYS by setting up a combi with the same program on several tracks, each with their own midi channel to receive data from the continuum. Each midi channel will get it's own pitchbend message, but they'll all play the same sound, just as you'd like in this use case.

You're right about omni -- although it wouldn't fix my pitch-bend problem, an omni mode would let me use a combi polyphonically where each channel would play the same combi.

I did set up a combi with the same program on each channel last night -- that worked great!

Is there any way to achieve roughly the same thing for a combi?

The 4 MIDI modes are listed at the bottom and the chart shows for which function they are available or not.
