Oasys and RME FF800 SPDIF trouble

Post by mozartella »

maybe someone could help there..

I just bought an RME audio Fireface 800, and seems very nice, I also run the 800 fireface with a firewire 800 speed and 9/9 pin..

I am new, but I am still waiting for the EXB-DI board for the Oasys, even knowing I am going to have trouble with the WC...

My question.

I already try to have either the RME or the OASYS on differents clock, and if I open a Combi, I link my 1/2, 2/4, 5/6, 7/8 analog jack to the IN of the RME, fine her, I am also able to use the COAXIAL OUT of my Korg PA1, and fine until there, but, when I try to connect my digital SPDIF OUT to the IN of the RME board, either 1 or 2, the RME the light is fix, meaning locked, I also did both to have the RME in Master, or the second way.....But, the SPDIF clock even on 48'000 Oasys always tell me, error clock....

No hint? no idea? could it be an hardware problem with the Oasys ? becuase, on all the sounds cards I have try, I always receive the same error clock, but with an RME fireface 800, that cannot be true....

thanks

Hi Moz,

Do you have the optical S/PDIF OUT from the FF800 (aka ADAT2) connected to the S/PDIF IN of the Oasys ? You need that to send clock from the FF800 to the Oasys. With that cable in place you can synchronize the S/PDIF OUT of the Oasys to the FF800 and you will see Sync rather than Lock in the Fireface control panel.

You must also do the same with your PA1X too, if the FF800 is going to be the clock master and the Oasys and PA1X synced to it.

thanks Daz, I actually have the optical OUT from Oasys to the ADAT 2 IN in the RME. Then this would be the other way around? There I am lost? Are you telling me the RME would clock the OASIS in SPDIF mode, that way? I actually have only one coptical cable connected, I could use both, would it be better?

thanks sweetie, ok, going to try right away, but, after? do I need to tell Oasys on Global to use the SPDIF clock or not? because, presently I do not see my L/R on the RME mixer

That connection carries the audio from the Oasys to the Fireface, that is fine. You will ALSO need another cable to connect the ADAT2 OUT of the FF800 to the Oasys S/PDIF IN to carry the clock from the FF800 to the Oasys.

I just looked and I don't think that the PA1X Pro has an S/PDIF IN, so it cannot be synchronized to the FF800.

So you'll need to synchronize the FF800 to the PA1X Pro and synchronize the Oasys to the FF800.

Fun ! :-)

Aaargh !

That WON'T WORK ! My mistake.

You can only have one S/PDIF connection with the FF800, either via Coaxial or Optical ... not both.

So you can only connect your Oasys OR your PA1X Pro via S/PDIF. Not both !

Whilst on this topic ... I want to say something to Korg (might be repeating myself, forgive me, but worth mentioning); your implementation of digital audio in your synths is just the best I have come across. The M3, Triton Extreme, Oasys et al., are rare examples of gear that properly integrates into what I would consider a "pro setup", straight out of the box. If you look at most other gear it either assumes it will the digital audio master, or is simply isn't able to send digital audio out that is correctly synchronized to the clock it receives. That's hopeless in an environment where you have multiple pieces of equipment with digital audio connects, it's only suitable for the most basic setups.

Daz, yes you are correct,, when we buy a piece like an Oasys, an we run on the side pour audiocard or not suited equipment we lost so much on the final output...

I did not have the time yet to follow your advise, but going to do it later...

Where I am coming now, this is almost the first time I can truly hear the REVERB or Delay or I think VST plugins would be the same with that new RME fireface 800, yes, this is expensive but, I fell after the beginer trouble I would truly enjoy it...I am happy, I mean almost happy..I have to learn again from the book...

BTW would you have some Presets handy dandy?

thanks Daz, but, I am not very happy with the Coaxial or the optical not both.... but, I am happy because you mentioned to me the way to get out of it....

Just wait, I have to connect and see if really this is working...
thanks Daz
