Copying IFXs in SEQ mode...

Post by Pr0 »

I'm making this song on seq mode. I've already copied a drum timbre (karma inclued) from Combi and recorded it via karma. As to the melodic tracks, I assigned "Piano Oasys Exs2" to track 1 and "Beatiful Camera Strings" to track 2. I did this by using the function - copy from program - to both tracks. The problem is that I cant't seem to retain both programs IFXs individualy. When I copy track 1, fine. I can ear the piano with all it's glory. When copy the string's IFX... I can ear it as if I were in program mode, When I go back to the piano, puff!... it's IFXs are gone. Checking the IFX tab made me realize that every time I do a "copy from program" it replaces the other.
What am I doing wrong here? I've gone through the manual, but can't seem to find any help.

In the "Copy From Program" dialog, Instead of checking the "IFXs-All" check the "IFXs-All used", then the already existing IFXs are preserved. Of course if there is no IFX slots left you get a warning.
Also you have to decide which programs MFX an TFX you want to use, but on the example you gave that seems not to be a problem.

Yes, use the ALL USED function. The FX will copy to the first open slots, even if the slots aren't all together. For example: drums usually use the first 5 IFX slots. If 6, 10 and 11 are open and you need to copy 3 piano IFX, they will most likely go to those and chain to each other. Be sure to set the piano's IFX routing to 6, as it usually defaults to L/R.

It worked! Just exactly as you you said. As I copied from one program at a time, I kept checking the IFXs tab and noticed how they started acummulating.
I've learned a lot more about IFX now. I even explored some dozens of programs to have a general ideia of how many IFXs a single one can have.
Thank you, guys.

Some programs rely heavily on MFX and TFX. For these you will have to decide which one to take = make a compromise.

Moreover to save slots you can check out which effects are "essential" to the overall sound and switch the ones to "no effect" which are not. Esp. the drums always come with 5 used IFX-slots - usually I'll need just 2 or 3.

And one more tipp: you can record each midi track to an audio-stereo-pair including all IFX, MFX and TFX. After that you can use all effect-slots for new sounds or audio-recordings. If you keep each version in a new song slot you can always go back to your original midi track an re-record it. For details of recording midi to audio see Mike's video. :!:
