Live Performance

Post by Yabs »

hey i play keyboards for a metal band and im thinking about buying a korg triton extreme, i dig the feel and the sounds and think i could be really happy with it i just have one question about it for live performances and jams.

Is there a way to preset sounds for something like 'one click' access for quick sound switchs? If there is how can I set this up and how many sounds can i set?
If anyone could tell me id be very very grateful.

Not sure what you mean by one click sound switches.

Are you referring to effects? Or are you referring to program sounds??

When my wife and I play live we use our sequencer and have 16 sounds on any song ready to go. Then it's just a matter of typing in 1,2, 3 (on to 16) enter and we are on one of those channels. We keep a list of certain sounds we might want to switch to on a particular channel and that is just a matter of hitting in the bank and the program number. You can do that in combi mode if you want to have up to eight sounds playing at once.

You can also organise your programs and combis in whatever order or fashion you want. If you want to have up to 16 sounds ready on any given song - load up your sequencer by songs and go from there.

If I understood your question a bit better, I think I could give you a more clear answer. But I think what you are asking can certainly be done in more ways than one!!

I think Yabs means that he wants to switch programs and/or combis with just one button press.

Yes you can do this easily, and you can have as many different ones as you want (up to about 1500 I think).

you can also switch programs using a pedal by connecting a switching pedal to the extreme and setting it to program up/down in global mode...voila a quick change at the tap of a foot - all you need to do is arrange your combis/programs in order and your sorted.

The way he wants i dont think its possible...there is no ONE CLICK sound
switching on EXTREME, its just NOW WAY! you have to hit BANK then sound
no matter what mode you are into...you have to type number in sequencer,
on Pedal you can just go up and down...no, there is no way the way you
want but there is workarounds for 2 clicks.

I think what you want to accomplish is not a feature included in the Extreme, but you can do this with another synth like the X50. It has a 'favorites' function. You can program up to 8 patches ready to go with the touch of a button. I own both and I use the X50 more for live performances. Not as many sounds as the triton, no sequencer and no sampling but it's less heavy and more easy to carry around for gigs. Of course I'm talking about an 88 Triton Ex vs a 61 X50 here, see what I mean, but you can always get the 61 Extreme for less hassle. Anyways, hope that helps.

Take a look at this: http://www.korg.com/service/downloadinfo.asp?DID=1052

It pretty much decribes my methods as well. For instance we play a Abba Medley in a cover band. It consists of 12 songs that run over 20 min, and I change sound 1-2 times in each song. Each song or sectionhas it's own combi and are organized in order, so I only need to press ONE key when moving to the next song.

Another way is to put all your sounds in different banks but with the same number. A000 piano/B000 Organ/C000 Strings and Brass etc. THen use the bank buttons to hop around between combis. That only uses one button press and gives you single sounds or splits and layers if you are in combi mode.
If you need more in the same song use a foot switch in conjunction to move to the next set up. Write the bank numbers on your set list next to song title. Thats what I used to do.
Now I have all my Combi's in the same category so I can see them on the screen all at once in category view. I just tap the song title which I write in all Caps for better visibility.
