cheapest country to buy korg

Post by mrkorg »

hello guys,

i dont know where to put this thread. nevertheless since the oasys is the most expensive korg i decided to put it here. Here is my question:

which country sells korg units for the cheapest price?

your reasons would be also helpful.

Techinically speaking I bet you will find the most inexpensive price in the USA as the simple answer is because of the cheap dollar compared to other currencies in the world. Beware though you get what you pay for.

And don't forget shipping costs too.

Also, I am not sure what the importation duties are like in Oz, but in UK Import Tax is 3.5%, and then 17.5 % VAT on top of that and shipping costs.

And check to see what kind of warranty you can get and if you need repairs, servicing, make sure you can get that done in OZ, otherwise its going to be costly and time consuming every time you need to send it in.

Good luck

in oz we do not pay any import duties on keyboards. however we do need to pay 10% of the purchase price (GST) goods and services tax.

Nevertheless my question was just a general one not taking into account shipping.....ect

what about online stores like zzsounds, sweetwater ect. Are they recognised by Korg?

Are they compitent sellers/dealers?

I think that Sweetwater and ZZSounds are good stores, but probably won't ship outside of the US.

Do you think this is a wise move?

Shipping a $8000 dolar commmodity like the Oasys to a hotel, not a good idea. Just come to NYC and pick it up yourself, nothing better than doing thing for yourself.

Since you are in Australia, you might want to explore Japan's prices. If I can recall they are slightly lower. Of course you'd have shipping and duties to contend with. Check out Ishibashi. Allow time for the page to translate. Remember, the prices are quoted in yen, so you'll need to convert to Aussie dollars. http://www.excite-webtl.jp/world/englis ... N&wb_dis=2
Good luck.

You might want to explore the issue of support and warranty, of course, which noone has mentioned as yet. These two things are covered by local distributors around the world. So, if you need any warranty work you'll need to send it back to the country that you purchased it from.

If you have difficulties (either operational or service-related) and you need specialist support, then you must also go back to the country you purchased it from, even if they don't speak English! The local distributor has no incentive to help you, and is not required to.

Many people also find that a relationship with a good local retail store is well worthwhile when it comes to any problems (large or small) that might arise. Without a friendly store or the distributor on your side, you're on your own.

My advice is to be careful.

I take it you tried Billy Hyde in Melbourne out at Blackburn - they had the Korg Arrangers on display when i was last out there about 3 months ago - if i recall correctly they were quite expensive.

JG is right though - i personally would never buy electronics from overseas - up to you what you do - good luck
