Using Kaoss Pad v3 (KP3) as a MIDI controller for Serato…

I am wondering if I could use the KP3 as a MIDI controller for Serato, I have both an M Audio USB to MIDI cable installed as well as USB to midi drivers for the KP3, I have tried using the KP3 Midi controller with Ableton Live for testing purposes.

However, I cannot seem to get serato to pickup any controls…

Sadly, I do not have any other MIDI type devices to test this…

I have googled my brains out…

Seriously this would be a great setup for me if this were possible, what else is the KP3 good for

i've been working on trying to make the kp3 interface as a scratch controller. what do you normally use for a scratch controller?? i don't have the necessary hardware to test what i should be emulating, but if i could get some data on that i think it would be simple

It works! It seems Serato has issues with the keyboard CAPS lock, it is a great controller… ok maybe not, it is my only controller.

There are limited button options when used as a controller for Serato, basicly the whole “pad” is useless.

I found a good setup however; I made the loop buttons into play buttons and the 1 – 8 I split into 4 cue points…

then I cued up all my songs with the first down beat as 1 cue point, the instrumental as a second point and vocals as a third… you get my point, I am playing the same track 20 different ways, and if you set the same track on the other table you can play the same track 2000 ways

Super easy to beat match when you have a 1 button cue point sitting next to your mixer.

right, but don't they use MIDI somehow? for some reason i was under the impression that the turntables used for serato were in some way different than a normal record player?

no they are just reg turntables... its the vinyls that are different

they are encoded and can be used on any turntable

okay, so the vinyl does what, play back a constant tone, and then serato decides what is happening based on the actual tone received??

for some reason i thought the turntables had a straight MIDI out that it used to send midi data... i've never been a record sort of a guy so i don't know anything about it. i tried to implement a scratch control on the KP3 but the results were pretty weak - if i knew what to emulate i'm sure it would be a breeze...

the kps is good controller but its not a mirror image of itself meaning as a dj midi controller it wont do aswell as others on the market eg. it only has one slider for say pitch control.ive got serato and had it for a while and at present theres no plans for effecks like tractor scratch so i got the kps for effects but as a bonus it midis up loops/scrolls/cues etc also the encoded records can scroll your crates
