Trouble Creating New Combi - PLEASE HELP!

Post by jake88 »

k so I read a post from some guy that wanted help changing sounds during a performance, and someone suggested just making a combi with all the sounds you're going to use, then just fade them in and out as you need...but i'm having a problem making the combi. I created it and all, and named it... and I have all the sounds in there that i want, but I can only hear the first program. I've messed around with the mixing and everything..but I just can't figure it out. What am I missing? Sorry if it's a stupid question, but the manual didn't help @ all.

THanks:)

ok, answered my own question...but that brings up another one. Why do you have to change the midi channel to 01G? I mean, i'm sure there are other ways to do it..but that's the only way i've figured out how to make all your timbres sound. thanks again guys

when you play the keyboard, it transmits MIDI on the global channel (by default ch#1.)... the MIDI channel for each program in SEQ or COMBI mode is the channel that it responds to... hence, setting it to the global channel will make it respond to the keyboard. if you have external sequencer or some kind of midi merge gear with other controller keyboards set to other channels, they will respond to whatever is being transmitted on that channel (e.g. say you have a controller on ch#2, set a timbre to ch#2 and it will respond to the external keyboard).

oh alright..that makes sense. I guess I find it weird that Korg would make the default setting something other than through the global channel. haha but thanks.

Help Recording

Post by korgork »

Um I should be able to manipulate the keyboard bring my editor up and see it recording someting I do not see anything being recorded as I play I don't want to have to set all the parameters on the editor if I've done so already on the keyboard is this a must?

I was up until Midnight READING the manual but I have not been able to record anything according to the way several people said that you do. I bought this M3 yesterday and If I don't find out percise working directions then I'm going to return it.

This did not do anything: one of your people wrote:
hit enter near numeric keyboard, hit rec/write, then ok, after doing this and playing a song NOTHING is recorded anywhere why? Why is it not syncing up with the editor? What am I missing here? I just spent 2000 on this and I can't even record. Do I need additional software why is it not saving the song as song one? Maybe I'm expecting something more straight forward user friendly recording? Please advise as I want to record right now but it is a Holiday and no one is at your call center today. My normal email is allkindsofrocks@yahoo.com.

I want to play the song have it saving as I go and then upload and save to my computer why can't I do this? I have read several pages in the manual so don't refer me to the manual give me exact direction on just recording what I'm playing on the keyboard...:)

Creating Combi From Scratch - Can only hear Program #1

Post by barbieb »

OK, I have the same question as Jake88 did. What do I need to do in order to hear programs within a combi I created, other than the first program. I have several others in there, but I can't hear them play. Can you please offer a suggestion? Thanks!

Nevermind -- I got from his message that I needed to change the Midi to 01G and that took care of it. Thanks anyway!

Circumstantual Directions

Post by korgork »

Ok so up above it mentions affecting the channels um what do I need to do, to record what I am playing do I have to make changes to the editor and the keyboard, what channels are you speaking of? Global Chanel where does one fix the Global Channel. Is this Global Channel mentioned in the section of recording....I'm seeing a lot of confusion in people regarding the manual. One page on one thing refers you to another page???? Maybe the guys at Best Buy should know how to work these various keyboards as well so I can call them.

alright..so if you want to create a combi.. go to your new combi..in bank I-D or I-E or whatever. press "page select" and click on the tab that says "timbre param" I think it's page three? ANyway..look at the section that says midi channel and change how ever many timbres you want to use..to "01G" then you'll be able to hear those programs.

Also to record in sequencer...hold down the enter button, and press record.
