Played an Oasys today
I figured it was time to try one out before they disappear. So few stores carry them--I visited Sam Ash in King of Prussia, PA for this demo.
Anyway, I was impressed of course--no surprise there. Beautiful design and that large touch screen was great! Lots of combinations with the Oasys have been included in the M3, but I guess most people know that. It was interesting going through the sounds and finding ones I recognized from the M3. There wasn't another soul in the keyboard department....which amazed me.
Naturally the sound of the Oasys is rich and huge. I didn't have enough time to spend with it, but could see that this beast is "deep".
I'm still very happy with my M3, although I'm sure the greatly reduced price of the 88-key model Oasys I played ($4999) will certainly entice prospective buyers.

I've played the Oasys many times at Sam Ash in KOP and I'm thoroughly blown away each and every time. On the other hand, my M3 also blows me away each and every time. So as long as I'm blown away I don't really care what synth it is.
You really lucked out Synthoid. That department is usually noisy as Hell. They used to keep the Oasys in the sound room behind velvet ropes and was a pleasure auditioning.

I've got both too and while I seriously love the M3, when you use it in a sequence along side the OASYS it almost sounds muddy.
The OASYS has a clarity about it that's both meaty and crystal clear all at the same time, where the M3 sounds more closed, restricted and limited when used beside the OASYS in the same tune.
I'm not running down the M3 here at all, it does sound fantastic and it's one of KORG's best sounding workstations. But it's not the best.
That goes to the OASYS which is far above everything on the market as far as clarity goes. You really can't understand this until you sit down and start sequencing with it. You build up tracks and they never sound muddy, it's actually like someone is mastering everything behind you as you move along. Everything always stays so clear....lol... I can't explain this correctly without using demos.
Regards.
Sharp.

It was a Monday morning.....not much happening I guess.Trinity2112 wrote:You really lucked out Synthoid. That department is usually noisy as Hell. They used to keep the Oasys in the sound room behind velvet ropes and was a pleasure auditioning.
I heard about the velvet ropes and expected to have to ask "permission" to play the Oasys. Instead, it was out in the open with the other keyboards.

Eventually, I would like the 76 key version, for a good used price.
I would keep my M3M ( I think ) if I had a Oasys 76

I also own both. As Sharp said, The O is incredible. Beaten by no one. I haven't had a whole lot of chance diggin' in to the M3 but I also find somethings that I like a lot. As in the 500+ drum patterns, that shnazzy lil' X-Y thing that you can drag you finger acrossed and change all those pretty lil' lights and the pitch of the sound
. Though a huge thing I miss is the 12 effect I have in the O compared to the 5 in the M.

Actually i have seen the 88 key for $3999 at the Guitar Center in Las vegas.Sina172 wrote:I saw a 76-Note here for $3600 at Guitar Center. It looked like new. The guy who owned it used it in Dr. Dre's Studio for a few months and sold it back to them (so I've heard). Don't know if its still there, but I'd be happy to call them up for you if you want.
I would've bought it, if it was an 88. But then I don't think it would've sold for $3600 if it was an 88. I think they would be selling for $4-5K.
That said, the 76 is a smokin' deal given that it looked like new.

P.S. Times have changed and the O is getting harder to find as a result, but I've spoken with Korg themselves and the OASYS is STILL in production, they are just not making as many given the economic challenges happening.
Dr Dre? really? wow....interested!

When I am ready, ( and I am not there yet) I should be able to find a good used 76 in the SF Bay Area
Sorry guys. That unit is no longer available. I bought it about two weeks ago. The guys at Guitar Center were very helpful and shipped it up to me in the SF Bay area in an ATA case I bought (allegedly) at their cost.Sina172 wrote: I saw a 76-Note here for $3600 at Guitar Center. Yes, I suppose I'm gloating.

Can I stop over ?
I can bring my XS Motif and RD700GX
No need to bring the XS since I have one here.GregC wrote: Hello ! I am in Dublin.

I'm happy to have a beer, or a scotch, or both with you sometime. Sadly, I'm a fairly unsophisticated synthesist, so I doubt I have much to offer. If you play in the area, let me know and I'll give a listen.
