Korg M50 and Midi

Post by gazzell »

Hi,
This is my first post so please be gentle.
I have had my Korg M50 now for about 5 months and i am really pleased with it.
Anyway to cut a long story short i was given a Roland MC505 groovebox.
I had no need for it so i was going to sell it.

A friend says why don,t you rig it up to the M50 via midi. This is where i get stuck.
I have never used midi and would not even know where to start.

So my question is:-would it work and if so what would be the best way to set it up?
If i can't be done or its not feasible no problem.I will sell it.

Thanks in advance.
Gareth.

It can be done easily.

As far as hardware, all you'll need is a MIDI cable long enough to reach between the two in your setup.

As for what to set on the M50 and groove box, that depends on how you want to use it. I'm not familiar with the groove box, but it'll either produce MIDI that needs to be played back by the M50 (connect groove box MIDI OUT to M50 MIDI IN), or you'll want to use the M50 to trigger sound on the groove box (connect M50 MIDI OUT to groove box MIDI IN), or both (in this case, you'll need two MIDI cables; always connect the OUT of one to the IN of another).

From there, it's a matter of making sure that the sending device(s) are sending on a MIDI channel that the receiving device(s) are listening to.
