Kaoss Pro & delay's

Post by Sonny »

Hi, since I got Kaoss Pro for several days, I have realized this:
- once I use headphones directly from Kaoss Phones Out - its all good.
- once I use headphones from my sound card in pc (Kaoss connected via Line out on Kaoss / Line in on sound card) - there is delay when I tap the pad.

Friend of mine has find out that he has similar troubles with his Midi Keyboard - connected in same way.

Question: what is the reason? Lenght of cable? PC sound card? PC?

First always check to see if you have a new sound driver available for your sound card. If it's a built in MotherBoard sound card be sure to go to the motherboard manufacturer for the driver.

Let us know if that has any impact after you verify/install the updated the driver.

No improvement as I expected. Any other idea?

The problem is the amount of time it takes the windows' standard drivers to process the sound. If you are using software monitoring, there will always be some kind of delay. We call this 'latency'. This is the main reason why people buy professional USB or Firewire (or internal PCI/PCIe or laptop PCMCIA cards) audio interfaces.

The ASIO driver standard was developed in order to get around the slowness of most native drivers, and can provide better results.

Specicifically, there is ASIO4ALL which 'wraps' the standard drivers in an ASIO system with some clever coding to make the response much faster. So you might want to download that and try to set up your computer recording software to use those ASIO drivers instead. Of course if ASIO drivers are available for your soundcard, those are preferable because they are designed for that card and aren't simply based on a bit of windows trickery like ASIO4ALL is.

Thank s for input. Friend of mine has come up with same idea yesterday, so I have downloaded ASIO4ALL already (general one, not specificly designed for my SoundBlaster Audigy as you wrote). I have tried also to play with settings in this driver, but I did not actually realized any differencies. Maybe thats the problem that it was only "general" driver, not SB Audigy designed. I'm going to search for it now...

Not all sound cards come with ASIO drivers. I'm not sure but I don't think soundblasters have ASIO.

One important thing which I mentioned before is that you need to set up to actually use the driver in your software. Just at the desktop in Windows the normal drivers are operating. In your DAW or sequencer software you need to go into its settings/preferences and tell it to use ASIO.
