using pads for samples

Post by rbalaa »

Is there anyway I can assign a sample to a pad and have it loop ? I have some nice loops that I'd like to use as a background beat when jamming and I hate to use my laptop everytime.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Should not be very difficult, if you just want loop play until press the pad or play infinitely after triggering.

1) Load loop (16 bit wav) in MEDIA mode
2) Assign to key and make it loop in SAMPLING mode
3) Convert to Program in SAMPLING mode
4) You may want also make it HOLD using PROGRAM mode but then you cannot turn it off once started except you either Mute it or change Program/Combi
5) You can assign note that plays your loop to any pad.
6) You can include that looping program into Combi.

Just tried it in 10 minutes and it works well.

If you want use pad as a trigger - press once - loop plays, press again - loop stops - this can be little tricky, currently I have no ideas how to do that but it does not mean it is impossible. No more time right now to try to implement that...

If you convert your sample loop to a drum pattern that would let you do what you want. Plus it will let you change the tempo of the loop without changing the pitch. Here's how……

Hi Nepro, in his case that wont be possible, he is using my set and all of the
KARMAfied Combies already have Drum Patterns assigned to them.
Ramzi, the only way i know is as Allan explained, unless someone else... :?:

Thanks All.

As well as Nedims's set, I'm also talking about sampling loops from my mac and then triggering them from the pads, but if I convert it to a drum pattern, will I still be able to switch patterns within the same sound that I'm playing ?

I think I should be able to.

Thanks again, I will try these tonight.

You 'can' switch KARMA scenes while the pattern is playing, if that's what you mean. The sample loop will sync to the KARMA scenes - which brings a whole new vibe to the loop.

Of course, you can only jam along with the loop if it's assigned to the drum pattern of the program/combi that your using to jam with - so you may be better off with the Alland's suggestion for being able to jam along with different programs/combis. I think that will let you change programs/combis while the loop is playing.

There are trade offs to each method so see what works best for you.

Good Luck! 8)
