Pitch effects and grain shifters fail

This is screwed up.

I bought a KP3 about a year and a half ago. After a while, some of the effects started malfunctioning: anything with pitch shifting or granulation produced an extremely low, barely audible output, and the drum and synth programs only produce normal output with a delay (which means about half a second after I touch the pad. For the drums, there's almost no output when i touch the pad way at the bottom of the Y-axis, but when I go up, I hear the delays).

Anyway, I sent it in for repair 3 times. Had to wait about three months each time — not strictly relevant, but I'm still kind of annoyed by that. Every time I got it back, it worked fine for a while, then the problems started again. After the fourth time, they sent me a new KP3.

Now get this: my new KP3 has the same problem! Exactly the same! I can only conclude the problem isn't with the units itself. What am I doing that seems to be destroying my machine?

is your home power supply, like the one to the house, pumping in to much? do you have issues with other appliances?

This is a good point, in some studios it can prove useful to employ a power regulator. Im not trying to say you screwed up, but this could be the case.

Never noticed any problems with other appliances, but maybe this is it.
So... What exactly should I do to fix this? I'm no biggie on the technical stuff.
Does this mean it will work fine as soon as the power supply gets fixed? Or will I have to send it back again?

i am not exactly sure, but it may be worth having an electrician come out, explain the problem to him, and have him check stuff.

Hi justhereforonequestion,

Did you replace the power supply?(mandatory!)
What other machines you use with KP3?
Do you get any static when touching your kp3(or the mixer/computer etch)?

With my previous unit, I tried a different power adapter (also a KORG adapter, which came with a friends KP3), and that didn't fix the problem. At the time, of course, I that didn't mean my original adapter didn't cause the problem. With my new unit I also recieved a new power adapter, though, so I don't imagine it was the adapter itself which was the problem. But what do you mean by mandatory?

It depends on my setup, but just trying out the new device now, I was running an EWI midi synth through a Line 6 DL4 into the KP3.

No static when touching the KP3 or any of the other devices.

I will definitely ask an electrician, but other people I have asked are reluctant to think that the power input into the adapter would have an effect on the output (unless the adapter is broken, which I'm still assuming it's not).

Another thing worth mentioning is that I've had it out on gigs, and it's happened that the effects have sprung back to life, but usually they don't.

Maybe just bad luck

....If it's not the power supply or any other device connected causing the malfunction I can't think of anything else...
I always use a cheap UPS(you can find them on computer shops) for some protection against overcharging the main electrical line...(or sudden dropouts...in my country the voltage is not at all steady)
