Anyone know the QUALITY of the CD audio burning of Kronos ?

Post by DrpC »

Hola, mates. :P

Just a quick question,...

Do we know what the audio quality (24bit, etc) of CD burning on the Kronos :?:

Trying to determine if burning the master soundtrack straight from the Kronos to CD itself gives a better quality of sound than say doing a .WAV (24bit) file transfer on the PC ?

Thanks in advance for all your support and wisdom 8)

Hi!

Kronos has no CD drive so I guess tjat answers your question.

If it had one it wouldn't affect the quality if you burned it intenally or on a pc - the digital music would be the same 1s and 0s no matter the burning device :)

You can burn CD's with the Kronos - see page 191 in the operations guide - you just need an external USB cd burner. All CDs are 44.1k and 16 bit, so that's what you'll get when burning a cd. You'll get that whether you export out a 24 bit file to your computer, or burn it directly from the Kronos.

Glad to help. I'm not an expert, by any means, but according to Wikipedia (usual caveats - if someone else has better info, feel free to correct me), the audio bit rate is 1,411.2 kbit/s (as 2 channels × 44,100 samples per second per channel × 16 bits per sample = 1,411,200 bit/s = 1,411.2 kbit/s. Wow, very intriguing... this is " a bit of yoda " :P

The bitrate I'm getting from Kronos in .WAV format is: 2304 kbps (might this be 24bit ?)

So... this appears to be IF the .wav file is converted to CD audio - we are losing about 892.8 kbps in sound quality.

Good news is, it appears the Kronos has a very high bit rate via export of .wav file so
at least we are not upconverting which I believe would be a worst case.

Thanks again, my friend for all your time and support.

I think you're confusing the Mp3 bit rate with the audio recording bit rate. They're not the same thing.

No matter what sample rate/Bit rate you use for recording, it has to be converted down to 44.1 /16 for final production.
