It has 2gb?

But only 148mb free?

how does this work, what is loaded into the ram?

OS itself and "ROM" samples are loaded in RAM upon power on (that's about a GB of RAM). SGX-1 pianos take a decent amount of RAM, as well as any other EXs that are loaded upon power on.

My RIM PlayBook specs 1GB RAM, but after a fresh reboot I'm lucky to see anything more than 600MB free. OS needs space too.

However, I have 1GB sample RAM installed in my Motif XS, and the full amount is always available to load (SLOWLY). The OS is loaded elsewhere, in a rock-solid manner that has never crashed, rebooted, not the slightest flinch. It just works, every time, all the time
