Should Korg consider an Integra 7 like product?

Post by minnkorg »

I would like to hear from all on if the time has come for Korg to do this.
This subject is not new and has been discussed on this forum earlier.

I for one am very happy with my Oasys and am not interested in "downgrading" (please don't come down hard on me....) to the Kronos.

I was contemplating of augmenting my hardware with a Jupiter 80 until the Integra 7 caught my eye.

However I would gladly buy the Kronos+ rack to use with my Oasys.

What do you guys think?

Yes, I would love to have a rack version, BUT it has to be something like M3-m, a fully functional OASYS or KRONOS with the same screen and controllers, just without the keys. I don't want something like the Integra 7 that REQUIRES iPad or Computer editor.

I can use the OASYS-m or KRONOS-m with my Fantom-G which has dedicated parts for external MIDI. I use M3-m in this setup and would LOVE to upgrade to KRONOS-m....

Rompler racks are not good sellers. Usually 100 units or so sell and thats not a big # for an MI company.

For all the Internet buzz about the Integra, most of it might be simple gear lust/looking for something new to consider. Don't overlook that the SRX boards have been around 10-15 yrs and that complete set isn't a big deal for folks like me who have owned a variety of Roland from the Jv880 to the Rd700GX1.

I would be interested in knowing the actual sales of the Integra in the first 6 months.

So no, I have no interest in a rack by Korg. I would rather they move forward and advance the technology thru to another super worksation.

Yes, racks did disappear for a while due to not selling in sufficient numbers. However, I have a sneaky feeling the Integra-7 is going to buck the trend. It sounds great, offers a lot in a small package, and the price is right.

It's on my list of purchases for 2013.

I always prefer rack versions. I was hoping korg would make a rack version of the Kronos but doesnt seem like it will happen. Or hell ill even take a full software version of the Kronos, all engines and everything. I know they can at the very least do that. They are already running of the shelf PC components to run the thing.

I'm not sure that a Kronos rack is all that great an idea either. I prefer to have the full range of controllers available for modifying those sounds as I play. And an OASYS or Kronos owner would be much better served with a different synth with a different sound from a different company to complement what they have. I personally prefer keyboards like the Jupiter-80, again with controls available, but I wouldn't be above grabbing an Integra rack.

A Kronos really benefits from all those available controls, the vector joystick, the ribbon, the KARMA control panel... all those elements which don't really exist on anything else but the OASYS. As such, I think any other synth would be a better choice to pair with a Kronos or OASYS, whether a keyboard or module.

yes, I would be interested in any product, but without the keyboard and controllers in is nothing more than an add on sound source. I use to have rack mounted stuff like the Wavestation SR, JV880, K1r, but sold them off because they became redundant with the keyboards I have purchased. And with the lack of midi cabelization on modern keyboards and sequencers, one unit would most likely all I'd ever buy.

Roland may soon come out with Integra synth which might be a tough competitor for Korg.

On the other hand, Integra's features are quite impressive like all their SRX libraries are inside and you can pull and push in a key touch through Ipad like a cheese cake. No one could deny that Roland's SRX libraries are quite a class.

Indeed, really the SRX library are some of the best sounds around, even today. Little known fact, a lot of them were made by Spectrasonic for roland. Not all of them but most.

I would definitely be interested in a rack for studio use. My preferred work method is to compose on a keyboard then offload that part to a rack module or vst if the sound source is good enough.

what? thats impossible.... roland has had patch remain since 1997 on there JV-1080 and every sound module and keyboard since. Makes no sense they take it out for the Integra?

Korg should spend the development time and money on a new OS/UI for their flagship workstation Kronos.

Maybe one that can run in a VM in multiple instances or native on OS X and iOS (64bit of course).

Lets not forget that the I7 doesn't just cover SRX. It is also a showcase for Roland's latest SN technology. It isn't for me, but I think it's a pretty cool product.
