Really there is just so much going on, I am sure it is well worth learning and I am digging in but had i realised just how much there way I would have ordered the prophet 12 and been perfectly happy with it. Now for anyone looking I am not returning it I am digging in but there is a lot to learn especially if you have never had a synth.

One question the ribbon doesnt always sound smooth, should it always sound smooth? Kind of like in some cases it has a step or two near the left end but not always.

Thanks Bertotti

Haha we did try to warn you about that :)
If you do stick with it it's pretty rewarding though.

Dunno about the ribbon, I suppose it should be smooth always, make sure you keep applying light pressure all the time I guess.

EDIT:
Oh and for simple synth editing find an Init EXi program (U-AA etc) and then in the "common" tab set EXi 1 to Polysix. Then you have a very basic Polysix patch with almost nothing going on, very useful to learn basic synth programming, using principles that work on almost all the other engines too.

Thanks I will give it a shot. I got to a mallet sound and went to town on the osc in it. I got a really round cool tone but didn't know how to save it yet so at some point I will do it again. I am having problems getting a very dirty but clear tone I am after. Trial and error I guess. Good thing it got here and I had a chance to play with it because now I need a new computer and if it hadn't shipped I would have cancelled it but now that I have it it isn't going anywhere!

Yes you all did try to warn me and I don't regret it. I don't have anyone to blame but myself. I do find the more I mess around the easier new things seem to understand. A few months and I will have the basics in the mean time it is still a lot of fun! I just want to learn to program in the worst way. Believe it or not I am hearing to we and sounds in my dreams now!

I can also say there is so much I can't even formulate a solid question yet, I'm sure a learning wall will pop up shortly.

Gator bag shipped and I am eyeing the spider pro stand. People seem to like it but I am not sure it is the right choice.

I think I'm close to being in the same boat you're in. I'm a guitar player, who's been taking piano lessons for a couple of years. The knobs, levers and menus have been eye opening to this guy. Guitars are easy to play - just tune and go. I'm slowly learning, like you. I'm trying to figure out something new each weekend. I ventured into MIDI a couple of nights ago, using Studio One 2 Pro and my 16-channel mixer.

I also bought the Spider Pro stand with my keyboard, which is the 88-key version. I really like it so far. It's lightweight, solid and has a second tier, which I'm not using... yet. K&M makes an accessory for the Spider Pro - it's a sheet music holder, which attaches to the stand. Nobody in the States seems to carry it, but I'm working with Sweetwater to get one. If not, I'll just order it from Thomanns in Germany.

Yep started with guitar and mandolin here as well! Not great but I have fun.

I didn't find a poly six int yet, I didn't look, but I did jump to the patch panel of the ms20 and cleared it. I get some cool tones but really have no idea what it is capable of. More reading to do! Poly six is next but today is the last day for a week. Got a week long work load starting tomorrow and no time to play.

There isn't really a Polysix init patch. There are plenty of EXi init patches though. They default to AL1 but can potentially be any EXi engine (which is all engines except for HD1).

Go to program userbank AA (hold int-a and u-a at the same time) and any patch should be an init EXi one. Clicking the "common" tab and looking at the top left dropdown box should give you a choice of engine. Right where it says AL1.

Enjoy!

Out of curiosity how much room do these sample libraries take up? I am not going to buy them and would like to not load them. If I find out korg has a way to move a activation from one board to another the. I would consider the Austrian pianos, but not anytime soon. I have a enough to learn now! But would like to get rid of them so they don't show up as an option anywhere.
